Classifieds Electronic Mailing Lists AIBS conducts a number of activities to support the teaching of evolution in schools and to ward off efforts to teach creationism in science classes or distort the teaching of evolution. One of these AIBS activities is a joint project with the National Center for Science Education ( www.ncseweb.org ) to establish and maintain an email list server for each U.S. state, for Canada, and for other select areas. The email list servers allow scientists, teachers, and other interested parties to be in touch with each other locally, nationally, and internationally. They can facilitate support groups for teachers trying to teach evolution in a difficult atmosphere. They can also permit rapid communications and grass-roots activity when school boards or legislatures are considering policies that will promote the teaching of anti-evolutionary ideas in science classes. Volunteers serve as list server managers. Most U.S. states now have list server managers, as does Canada. Their names and email addresses appear below, as do subscription instructions. Please subscribe! If your state has a contact person, but no list name, please write and encourage them to get their list server started. If your state does not appear on the list, that means no one has volunteered to run the list server. Please consider volunteering. The time commitment should not be burdensome. University computer center staff should be able to set up the list server for you. Contact Robert Gropp in the AIBS Public Policy Office at

Extractions: Search: Home Search Download Documentation ... SIGs EDU-SIG Index Mailing list Mail archives About Python SIGs Email Us urnerk@python.org Python Software Foundation Python continues to make inroads at all levels in education. As a first programming language, Python provides a lucid, interactive environment in which to explore procedural, functional and object oriented approaches to problem solving. Its high level data structures and clear syntax keep the forest in view through the trees. Other, and oft times more difficult, languages become more accessible once these basics are mastered, while Python itself remains a valuable tool in more advanced professional and business applications. Because Python is both powerful by itself, and plays well with others (including with multiple operating systems) its relevance is not diminished as one's toolbox becomes more heterogenous and specialized. Edu-sig provides an informal venue for comparing notes and discussing future possibilities for Python in education. Its origins trace to Guido van Rossum's pioneering Computer Programming for Everybody (CP4E) , a grant proposal accepted by DARPA, and which provided a modicum of funding in 1999.
