Like most snakes, the Stephen's banded snake has a diamond shaped head, with a long slender body. The Stephen's banded snake has a total length of about 45cm. The Stephen's banded snake is a predator to lizards and small birds, but is prey to large birds such as falcons. The snake uses its bands as a means of camouflage and uses its small size to slide into small holes while in danger. The Stephen's banded snake mostly lives in trees, they also use places such as hollow logs as shelter. The snake feeds on lizards and small birds. The Stephen's banded snake comes out from its hiding place for water then usually goes quickly back to its original place. The Stephen's banded snake does not need much space, a small tree or a hollow log is all that is needed.

The Heloderma suspectum suspectum (Reticulate) and these adults are mottle and blotched. The second is the Heloderma suspectum cinctum(Banded) and these adults have a broad double crossband. The Gila Monster appears sluggish in the wild but it can quickly turn around and bite; when the Gila Monster bites its prey or its enemy, it holds on to it viciously. The Gila Monster's venom is as deadly as the venom of Western Diamond Back Rattlesnake. It is the only poisonous lizard in North America and is the biggest. The Gila Monster comes out at night and spends 98% of its time in a burrow that was built or stolen from another animal. In winter, the Gila Monster hibernates in its burrow and uses the stored fat in its tail that can keep it alive for months. The Gila Monster lays 1-12 eggs at one time. The eggs have a tough cover. This creature can live up to 20 years.

Habitat loss and habitat fragmentation has lowered the numbers of the species. Present Status: The eastern short-horned lizard is found in the western counties of the Dakotas to northeastern Montana and adjacent Canada, south to eastern Colorado and extreme northeastern Utah. In Wyoming and Colorado the eastern short-horned lizard is no longer present in several large areas. Life History: The nortbern sagebrush lizard is active from late April to mid-September. The species is easily disturbed and immediately seeks refuge in crevices, in rodent burrows, and under surface plants when alarmed. The reproductive season lasts from May to mid-July. The females lay a single clutch of 2 to 7 eggs about 1 inch deep in loose soil usually at the base of a shrub. Hatchlings appear in mid-August. Diet consists mainly of ants, spiders, mites, ticks, and other insect types. Snakes are the main predator of the northern sagebrush lizard.

    Extractions: Species: cataphractus The nostrils of the Armadillo Lizard are formed into little tubes. The tubes help the Armadillo Lizards smell for food or predators. A ground dwelling lizard, it is active in the daytime and feeds on a wide variety of insects, as well as on spiders and other invertebrates. The head of the Armadillo Lizard is narrow in shape. It is fairly slow moving animal, but when the Armadillo Lizard thinks or knows it's in danger, it runs as fast as it can go for cover. The Armadillo Lizard has its babies in the late summer. Only 1 or 2 babies are born during that time. The Armadillo Lizards stay in family groups, and they will all live in the same rock crevice. When the lizards give birth, the babies are live-born, but do have a thin membranous shell that they need to break through. The Armadillo Lizard is a prey animal. It is preyed upon by bigger and stronger predators, such as humans, etc. The Armadillo Lizard's armor is most usefull against many birds, mammals, and other reptiles.

There are eight species with a total of 16 recognized taxa, including subspecies. Rock iguanas inhabit fragile ecosystems and most have suffered greatly over the years because of man's activities and introduced animals.
