This is our seventh year to host this premier livestock event in Medicine Hat. No purebred cattle or breeder will be allowed to enter any cattle in the commercial classes. The Beef Pen Show Committee reserves the right to refuse any animals. Cattle will be weighed on the commercial side and split by weight into two classes for the open heifer class. Livestock committee has the authority to check cattle for identification and has the authority to disqualify an entry. Cards will be supplied to identify the owner of the pen. Owner must complete and display the cards. A panel of three judges will judge all classes. Cattle will pass through the ring and be scored on an individual basis. Emperor and Tau Emperor soon follow, both easy species to rear. Post hibernation larvae become available, notably quantities of Marsh, Heath and Glanville Fritillary, Black-veined White, Scarlet, Jersey and Garden Tigers, The first Silkmoths begin to breed: we particularly recommend the Indian and American Moon Moths, Chinese Oak Silkmoth and the Robin Moth. Early Hawkmoths start, especially the Poplar, Eyed and Lime Hawks. APRIL TO AUGUST This is the period of greatest activity - availability changes quickly: another good reason to place orders ahead whenever possible. Following the flurry of spring activity, there are three months in which many species become available as eggs and larvae. Stock marked winter is held in cool conditions and can still be ordered in the earlier summer months, unless supplies have sold out. Once into late July there is still a range of eggs and larvae, though less of a choice of species. These include some temperate species but are stronger in exotic Lepidoptera.
