The Basics Basically, the Constitution is the highest law in the United States. All other laws come from the Constitution in some way. The Constitution also provides a framework for the government of the United States. It creates things like the President, the Congress, and the Supreme Court. Each state has its own constitution that is the highest law for the state - but even then, the United States Constitution is higher. Over time, some things have been added to the Constitution. Called "amendments," these add-ons list some of the rights of the people. By listing these rights, they are made special, and it is illegal for the government to violate those rights. As of 2004, there are 27 amendments to the Constitution. Not all of them involve rights, but many do. The first ten amendments, in particular, have the special name of the Bill of Rights.

Michael called Krista to help him access a Web site on their computer. As Krista helped her husband, she listened to Kenna and went back into the bathroom to check on her several times. Then Krista was out of the bathroom for perhaps four minutes. When Krista went back into the bathroom, she saw about four inches of water in the tub and yanked back the shower curtain to see Kenna floating face down. Krista was sure Kenna was dead.

Specific Home School Statutes: None. Alternative Statutes Allowing for Homeschools: Section 26-1 : "Any child attending a private or a parochial school where children are taught the branches of education taught to children of corresponding age and grade in the public schools, and where the instruction of the child in the branches of education is in the English language" is in compliance with the Illinois compulsory attendance law and is therefore not truant. According to People vs Levisen , a homeschool is a private school if it does those things that private schools are required to do. There are no academic requirements for private schools in Illinois. However, as noted above, parents must send children to a school that teaches in the branches of education and in the English language, therefore your homeschool must do that. NOTE: Students using American Sign Language (ASL) are considered as being taught in English. Children for whom English is a second language must still be taught in English.
