Artificial Languages An essay on the nature of artificial languages, by Robert Isenberg. http://www.uib.no/people/hnohf/artlang.htm
Extractions: Translated into Klingon by Nick Nicholas and Andrew Strader The study of artificial language is not an easy one. The aims of their authors are various, sometimes admittedly inane. Most artificial systems, once generated, are never used or revealed to anyone but the creator, and even then can hardly be called languages. The distinguishing characteristics of genuine artificial languages, codes and functional systems are hazy, and identifying them is often viewed as missing the point. An important thing to keep in mind, however, is that although artificial languages are artificial, they do exist. To assume that an artificial language is illegitimate because a single individual or select group developed it is not only simplifying the issue but also writing off any linguistic relevance it may have. Thousands of speakers of various artificial languages would tend to disagree with that assessment.

[Other Related Links] This page is a means of sharing information about the teaching of the concepts of programming languages, especially undergraduate survey courses and courses about programming language semantics. It is hoped that the information shared will include homework and test problems, which will make everyone's life a bit easier. (It may be best not to allow access to solutions from outside your college or university, however.) This page will not include information about courses aimed at teaching some specific programming language (as a means of teaching programming skills). Also outside the scope of this page will be information about courses in compiler construction. (I'm hoping someone else will volunteer to keep such pages.) If you wish to share information about one or more of your courses please see the information about how to contribute Various academics have made information about their courses available on the world-wide web (WWW). These professors are often willing to share homework and test problems with others, but see their individual pages for details.

How to add language groups in Windows 2000? ... Which of the Windows XP locales do not have codepage support? In the Windows operating systems, a locale is a set of user preference information related to the user's language, environment and/or cultural conventions. This information is represented as a list of values used to determine the correct input language, keyboard layout, sorting order, and the formats used for numbers, dates, currencies and time. In order for a particular locale to be available for selection, the appropriate language group must be installed. Windows 2000 and Windows XP includes support for 126 and 136 different locales, respectively, ensuring that users around the world can configure their systems to use the correct formats for their own language and region. Locale support in Windows is provided through a number of different locale settings: the user locale input locales , and the system locale . Taken together, these settings offer users a great deal of flexibility when setting up a machine.
