WHY PEOPLE WORK In this two-part series, students will read and study, " Work " by Khalil Gibran. Using the handout, "Why People Work" students will prepare an interview of 5 people who work, and are of varying ages and economic status. The answers to these questions will be organized into a short presentation given to the class. BRIDGES TO THE FUTURE During this three-part series, students will be introduced to the English Renaissance (1485-1625) and the dominant genre from this period. They will read and analyze a variety of sonnets composed by poets of this period. Students will read contemporary literature which deals with career choice. Students will determine their career interests and investigate the opportunities available. LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION Using Geoffrey Chaucer's "The Canterbury Tales," students will analyze character's strengths, and then compose a letter of recommendation from the point of view of one of that character's teachers. Students will use contemporary business letter format and language in the composition of this letter. The recommendation will be appropriate to the strengths, aptitudes, and skills of the individual character.
