Extractions: However, artists don't just choose landscapes because mountains stick around longer than a moving person. If that were the case, photographers wouldn't ever take a picture of a sunset or a beautiful meadow full of flowers. Instead, photographers spend a lot of time taking pictures of scenic locations. There's something appealing about photographing nature, and with just a little bit of work, you can easily produce a great photo!

Landscape - Lesson1 A good landscape photo is technically accurate and generally pleasing. A goodlandscape photo typically doesn t wind up in the waste can. http://www.photo-seminars.com/Landscape/landscap1.htm
Extractions: What makes a good landscape photograph? As a photographer, that should be a question you think about often, with or without camera in hand. There is no single answer, and there are probably as many theories on the topic as there are photographers. As with any art form, appreciation for landscape photography is subjective-not everyone will like the same image. I heard one photographer speak at a conference who described the Florida landscape as "ugly" and worthy only of closeup or wildlife photography. Yet I work in the Florida landscape every day and find it an endless source of fascination and beauty. Hillsborough River at sunrise, Hillsborough River State Park, FL: The wild Florida landscape is subtle, but never ugly. Rising mist, limestone boulders, an ancient cypress - there is a mystical element in this photo that makes this my best - selling fine art print. Obviously, every good photograph contains certain elements that elevate it above mediocrity. Proper exposure; attention to form, texture, line, or some other graphic foundation; and quality of light spring to mind immediately. But much of what makes a good landscape photograph, or perhaps in this case we should say "great" landscape photograph, is intangible. Something in the photograph strikes us to the core, makes us gasp, makes us cry. Maybe it's a dramatic sky over a salt marsh or river smoke rising from a stretch of rapids or the play of shadows and light in a slickrock canyon. Maybe it's the raw force of nature that catches and holds us. Maybe it's a magical subtlety.

The Maritime Cultural Landscape An essay describing the concept of traditional maritime zones of transport in terms of human geography. http://www.abc.se/~m10354/publ/cult-land.htm
Extractions: The Maritime Cultural Landscape On the concept of the traditional zones of transport geography by Christer Westerdahl The archaeological concept combining sea and land would be the maritime cultural landscape. It means that the starting point for the subject of maritime archaeology is maritime culture. The maritimity of people is conditional, i.e. a cultural factor. If you do not possess a population attuned to maritime preoccupations, even if a current population is residing at the sea shore, there is no maritime culture. On the other hand maritime (the transport aspect) culture follows the boat and its crew, even inland. Basically the dependence and the exploitation of the waters could be as fundamental in lakes and waterways as on the sea itself (on the Swedish lake Vänern I am not going to give any details here of the elements and categories of remains constituting this landscape, nor of its many aspects. That has been and will be done elsewhere (cf Westerdahl 1986, 1987-89, 1991b and in pr.). But I want to point out that both are meant to unite sea and land, archaeology and its little brother at the shore. The reason for their present separation is partly the apparent narrowness of the diving mask. It is not the question of underwater contra land archaeology. To the present author, the main concern would be to broaden the perspective of maritime archaeology in instruction as well as in research to all aspects of the maritime cultural landscape.

Extractions: Fine Art Landscape Photos This site features some of the best fine art landscape photography pages found on the web. I have done searches using the major search engines trawled through the major indexes of landscape photos and selected those sites which expemplify landscape photography which is creative well composed, may use alternative photographic techniques and provide high quality scans so that you get a good appreciation of the photos. Basically the photos on these sites have to my eye a significant WOW factor. This is not meant to be a comprehensive list because it would become too large and defeat the purpose of the page that is reduce the amount of time you take to find quality landscape nature wildlife digital and other photos. I have done this because many of the indexes have grown a little too big and commercial and as a result you can spend too much time loading sites of variable quality and style. In addition there is an overwhelming supply of photos from certain areas particularly places in North America like Yosemite and whilst many sites are excellent it is sometimes difficult to find something that is original. This list does include some of these types of sites but I have deliberately only included a few. The list is in no particular order of preference but they have been broadly categorised into colour, black and white, alternate process and exhibition sites (groups of photographers or sites that feature different photographers). I have provided a brief description for each link so you know what to expect, but I am sure you will find these sites worth the effort.
