Extractions: Archaeological Digs and Tours for 2005 Posted by Paul McLerran @ 1:23 PM comments Rescue archaeology in Iran may lead to some important archaeological discoveries in the near future. Recently, a joint team of Italian and Iranian archaeologists have discovered thousands of pottery shards scattered in an area that will soon be flooded by the waters of the new Sivand Dam. The shards were found in an area that bears significance in association with the King Road, the major ancient road that connected the ancient World Heritage site of Pasargadae with ancient Persepolis and Susa. The archaeological history of the area threatened by the flooding dates back to prehistoric times.

This apparently was in the time of the Wessex King Brihtric (786-802) (on whom we can find little information). A Norwegian Viking party arrived at England's Lindisfarne Monastery in 793AD, accompanied it was said by high winds, lightning and fiery dragons in the sky, on Holy Island, off the Northumbrian Coast. These events have been widely regarded as a beginning of "Viking Age", but it does not seem to be recorded if English Christians were worried, if they heard about it, by a Moslem invasion of Southern France in 792AD. In coming seasons, by 794AD came another Viking raid on England, to a Northumbrian monastery, possible at Jarrow, but it was thwarted. (Dixon, Barbarian Europe , p. 117.) In 795 came Viking raids on the English west cost, at Iona, an island off the Irish coast. The first recorded notice of a Viking attack on Ireland was at Lambey by 795AD. Norsemen - probably Norwegians - had sailed south from Skye in Scotland.

Kashmir Sentinel Many people do not report simply out of fear of the militants. Hurriyats new stand on emphasizing its political and indigenous character is more http://www.kashmirsentinel.com/dec1999/
Extractions: VOL. 5, NO: 21 Despite official denial, reports emanating from New Delhi suggest that the Centre has established dialogue with the Hurriat leadership. As a matter of political principle any dialogue between the government and a section of its citizenry to address the aberrations of democratic governance is a welcome development. But then whom and what does the Hurriat leadership represent. "Representative Character" has been thrust upon Hurriat by the countries waging proxy-war against India to keep the pot boiling in Kashmir. Only the other day a leading national daily brought out the details establishing its mercenary character. Hurriats politics has nothing to do with the aspirations of Kashmiris. The bitter legacy this politics has left behind is political subversion, annihilation of any semblance of religious pluralism, violent mayhems, brutalization of society and denial of freedom of speech and political choice. The Hurriat leadership in also obsessed with pursuing the politics of personal aggrandisement. Mr Abdul Gani Lonethe Hurriat leader has spoken about a negotiated settlement. He also has demanded dialogue with the dissatisfied group. No sovereign nation can ever acquiesce to a settlement which leads to the dilution of sovereignty over its integral part. Autonomy or independence both are the variants of the same process.

Extractions: Evaluating the Age of Belief India had a favorable balance of trade with the Roman empire in the first century CE, but they had their own internal conflicts under the Satavahana kingdom. In the northwest Iranian kings known as the Pahlavas were driven out by Scythians led by Kanishka (r. 78-101), who supported Buddhism and founded the Shaka era. Buddhist philosophers such as Parshva and Ashvaghosha were favored at his court. The new greater vehicle of Buddhism called Mahayana emphasized the bodhisattva saint who helps others, and this doctrine was explained in the Surangama Sutra , which warned of allurements from sex and ego. Ashvaghosha wrote the earliest Sanskrit drama, and his poem Buddhacharita described the life and teachings of the Buddha. His Awakening of Faith in the Mahayana distinguished suchness (bhutatathata) from the cycle of birth and death (samsara) . He taught compassion for all beings and thus criticized the prejudices and inequities of the caste system. Prajnaparamita was translated into Chinese in 179 CE and discussed perfect wisdom. The

The truth is that the World Bank and IMF have been raping this amazing nation for decades, while promising reforms that will 'benefit' the people. This paper looks at how the World Bank is repeatedly failing. It is the World Bank and IMF who again have blood on their hands. The 1944 Bretton Woods conference on the global financial system resulted in the creation of the World Bank and IMF. This was done to assist in financing the reconstruction of Europe devastated by World War II and to provide a mechanism for promoting international trade. Both institutions come under the broad United Nations (UN) umbrella as they have legal relationships with UN agencies, but remain otherwise autonomous bodies. Members of the IMF can draw on its funds to support their currency when it is weak, borrow money to meet short-term foreign payment requirements, and receive loans. The third player is the WTO, which replaced the GATT. I will not discuss the WTO at all due to time restrictions. Despite the varying goals of the Bretton Woods trio, this author believes that it is possible to place their objectives under four broad headings , which are to:
