They have a reputation as bloodthirsty killing machines, but this view is distorted. Sharks are not unique in consuming animals. For example, humans are predators, eating cattle, pigs, chickens, fish, and other creatures. As apex predators, sharks limit the populations of the animals they eat. This maintains the balance of nature. Sharks occasionally do attack humans, but not all attacks are feeding events. Sharks sometimes grab humans by mistake. Other times an attack may protect a shark's space, much as a dog barks at and bites intruders.

Equator Website The Ambient Wood II - Classroom Ecology The Ambient Wood II Classroom ecology Children used physical links to jointogether organisms into a food web. The interactive display http://www.equator.ac.uk/index.php/articles/628
Extractions: City-wide Performance ... Site Map The aim of the classroom session was to help children take information about some of the organisms they had discovered while exploring the ambient wood and think about interrelationships between by constructing food webs. This activity was supported by the use of a tabletop display and physical tokens. This experience was designed to support 11-12 year old children in moving from an exploratory learning situation to more formal conceptual learning about ecology. Specifically we were interested in seeing how the practical experience in the woodland might help them to understand the more formal concepts of food chains and webs taught in school. Furthermore, we wanted to explore the effectiveness of using tangible media for supporting explicit expression of formal concepts using concrete examples from information discovered in the woodland. A horizontal display was used, where children interacted with a map of the woodland displaying the information they had found during the AW II experience. Physical tokens were used to represent organisms found in the wood. Children used physical links to join together organisms into a food web.
