Australian Family Association - Useful Links A report by the Australian Institute of criminology has found that the number Thousands of young Australian children are calling kids Help Line because http://www.family.org.au/update/2001/u20010301.html
Extractions: The Australian Family Association Family Update , March-April 2001, p. 1 Environmentalists rightly worry about flora and fauna becoming endangered and extinct due to the recklessness and carelessness of humans. There is another species, however, that is becoming equally under threat because of human greed and exploitation - children. Children today are endangered from all sides. There exist many groups who are eager to exploit children for greed and financial gain. Some groups readily come to mind, such as drug dealers and pornographers. But there are many other ways in which our young people are being preyed upon. Indeed, an examination of today's headlines makes it quite clear just how much our young people are at risk. Consider the following representative examples from over the past year. A report on Victorian youth found that one in four teenage girls report symptoms of depression, the same proportion smoke cigarettes, and girls are much more likely to become homeless. Also, nearly half of all teenage males are under-age drinkers. In dealing with depression, increasing numbers of Victorians are turning to anti-depressants, with children as young as four having Prozac and other drugs prescribed by GPs and pediatricians.
