Extractions: Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the 1992 Americans with Disabilities Act may seem puzzling to the non-lawyer. Myths and half-truths abound. Many board members and administrators fear that the cost of accommodations will be so high as to force schools and parish programs out of existence. Some school personnel continue to question accepting students with special needs. Can the average Catholic school provide the program adjustments needed by these students? This question should not be answered without a clear understanding of legal requirements.
