I was intimidated by the art dolls I saw on websites and in books, mystified at how people made such powerful and beautiful objects. For most of my life I used words to express my thoughts and feelings, and I was overwhelmed by the notion of turning clay into tiny hands and feet. The craft of making faces eluded me. more more One of the biggest problems that we run into when we are creating something is that our minds get in the way. Id read all the research about its power to reduce stress and strengthen the immune system, but as the days wore on I couldnt bring myself to practice what I preached. I was a professional writer. Travel Writing For Fun And Profit Travel writing for Fun and Profit, an article by Phil Philcox. http://www.writerswrite.com/journal/aug98/philcox.htm
Extractions: Travel writing sounds like fun. You head off to some exotic location, take some notes, shoot some photos and when you return you write travel articles that sell for enough to pay for the entire trip...and make a profit! The reality is that only a few fortunate writers get to travel on expense-paid adventures and earn enough to wander around the globe and pay their bills while away from home. However, there are magazines out there that rarely use travel articles but might be interested in you as a "traveling writer". If you use your imagination and devote some time to marketing your ideas, you can spend a few weeks or a few months traveling around the U.S. or overseas and return with enough pre-sold articles to cover your expenses and even earn a profit.

Throughout the past few years, Ive honestly attempted to use this journal as one therapy method toward reclaiming parts of my soul I thought were lost several years ago. I came quickly to the conclusion, however, once my thoughts hit paper that those parts werent to be reclaimed by analyzing painful events over and over again, but by gradually moving on with the present and toward the future. Allowing my mind to dwell on my past was nothing more than an attempt at making a tense into a location. To put it simply, memories are only as concrete as Ive decided to make them And I refuse to buy more cement, sand, or add any more water than what I already have to turn time into a bunker. I know that there are people who have read my words and wondered if I even had a point. What exactly was she documenting, they wondered? Was she detailing the day she lived within, as noted by the journals date, or was she outlining the past event that commanded that day? the unseen daemon within her mind The answer is both.

The theory of "cultural hybridity" of the creation of new transcultural forms has become widely employed and disputed not only in contemporary literary-academic discourse but also in scientific, philosophical, and sociological disciplines. The person who most decisively shaped the conception is the post-colonial critic Homi K. Bhabha. In his analysis of the interrelations between coloniser and colonised, he comes to the conclusion that any cultural identity in the "contact zone" of intercultural relations is constructed in a hybrid space, which he calls "the Third Space of enunciation [that] may open the way to conceptualising an inter national culture, based on ... the inscription and articulation of culture's

By 1980, the top editors vowed to make the newspaper a showcase of great writing. They brought in a writing coach named Donald M. Murray, a kind and insightful teacher with a Pulitzer in his portfolio. During the 1980s, Murray coached our writers and editors, coming to the newsroom for one- and two-week stints. He worked at our side, not only showing us the craft but also teaching us how to discuss our craft and to learn from one another without threatening or feeling threatened. Murray taught that good writing results from processes that can be learned and then repeated, even in an environment as harsh and hectic as an American newsroom.

For all its flaws, it still kept me tied to my own emotions, even when I didn't agree with them. And, I have a soft place for any book written about my hometown (Baltimore). It's a decent story about a Pyrex-family post WWII; a typical theme, but fashioned with Tyler's lens and ability to make things bleed. The characters are at times slightly bland, but it is the rawness of their arguments that makes this book a good read. Classification: Fiction Reviews:

I just want to note that I wasn't terrible impressed and not amused at all by the electorial battle of all sides. Maybe I am naive but I expect a certain level of objectivity, not mud-slinging with claims that prove to be misleading at best when I go checking for facts. In other news I am planning to write since Thursday but got sidetracked by the topic of conlanging. My last activity in that area was more than a year ago. In fact the last notable progress was fall 2003 (verb forms). Obviously it was time to remind me that the conlang-without-a-name refuses to stay stillborn.
