Individuals, alone and together, on farms and in factories, in backyards and in neighborhoods, are restoring riverbank habitat, replanting native grasses, and innovating to prevent pollution. These citizen stewards predated our arrival in Washington. We are seeking to nurture their efforts through shifts in how the Department of the Interior spends money and through administrative, legal, and legislative actions.

The management of the river under the "Ten Year Plan" developed under Gale Norton, Interior Secretary, has come under attack by Indian tribes and fishermen for causing the deaths of over 34,000 salmon in the lower Klamath River in September 2002. Diversions of Klamath water to fields earlier in the year resulted in warm, low flows below Iron Gate Dam last fall, leading to an unprecedented outbreak of disease and the largest recorded fish kill in U.S. history.

We are located in Dawson Hall on the south campus, on the corner of Cedar and Sanford, building 1010, (click here to see UGA map of campus) of the University of Georgia, and are a part of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. Our campus is located in Athens, Georgia, a historic town 75 miles east of Atlanta. The faculty members in the Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors department have teaching and research experience in many areas. We offer a diverse program which covers all aspects of textiles, fashion merchandising and interiors. The mission of our department is to Create undergraduate curricula that are educationally sound, and that build on the liberal arts basis of the University of Georgia core curriculum. Build on the core curriculum, educate undergraduate students in their professional area, and provide them with the base of knowledge that will allow them well-qualified entry into the work force.
