Joseph Craig Carr, (Joseph Jr's son) moved to Morris Illinois in 1856 to work in the MCquiston foundry. He later went on to be the President of the Grundy County National Bank. He also was in the civil war attaining the rank of Adujant of his company, the 31st Iowa. He married Rebecca Jane Wynn and they had three children; Frank,Edwin and Hattie all were born and raised in Morris Illinois.

Extractions: Some people from what is now the Bader community attended a meeting held by Beverly Curry at the Samuel Kirkham home on Sugar Creek in 1838. He continued to meet with them from time to time and in 1840 they organized as a church at the home of Joseph Dennis with a membership of 34. No complete list of charter members is available, but among them are Joseph Dennis, Phillip Mulkey, Henry Venters, T. Lancaster, W. K. Jones, Sarah Fowler, and Ophelia Marshall.

Native Languages of the Americas: Illinois-Miami (Maumee, Myamia, Twightwee) Language: Miami and Illinois are dialects of the same Algonquian language, spoken in Indiana and later Oklahoma. Though no native speakers of the language remain, language revival efforts are ongoing, and children from both the Miami and Peoria nations are learning to speak their ancestral language again. People: The Miami Indians (Maumee or Myaamia, also called Twightwee or Twatwa by some of their neighbors) live in two groups, one of about 2000 Miami in Oklahoma and one of about 6000 in Indiana. The two groups consider themselves the same people, but only the Oklahoma tribe is recognized by the American government. Though the Illinois speak the same language the Miami do and the two are historical allies, they have always considered themselves politically distinct. History: The Miami and Illinois Indians were very close relatives with nearly identical culture and language, but distinct political affiliation. Both nations were really loose confederations of several independent tribes, so perhaps there was some political rift which caused some tribes to group together as Miami and some as Illini. The Illini tribe was the more powerful of the two, until an Illinois man murdered the controversial but much-loved Chief Pontiac of the Ottawa Tribe then almost every tribe of the central US except their kin the Miami turned on the Illini in a vengeful war that left only a few hundred survivors, mostly women and children. Extractions: Illinois Genealogical Research Newspapers contain a wealth of information of interest to genealogists and historians. Obituaries and marriage and birth announcements are commonly found in newspapers. In many locations, the executor of an estate is or was required to advertise that the estate was being settled - often the newspapers have these advertisements. Sometimes you find information about who is moving into or leaving a community. Newspapers also give a window into the life of the time and location. In small town newspapers, you often find references that Aunt Sally went to shopping in the big city, or that Cousin Joe broken his arm falling out of the apple tree. For an example of what you may find, take a look at some extracts from the 1880s from a small town newspaper called the Leon Indicator, Leon, Butler County, Kansas. These are extracts about the Beadles family who moved to Kansas from Fulton County, IL, as well as other Illinois names and places which I recognized. Newspapers can be tedious to use, but they are valuable resource you won't want to miss.
