It is accredited by the Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC) and commences in 2001. The course is being provided for people who are interested in careers in horticulture. Employment in the sector is buoyant with an abundance of well paid jobs available for people with Higher Education qualifications. Recruitment to the course will be through the Central Applications Office (CAO) system. Applicants must have passes in five Leaving Certificate subjects at ordinary level, Grade D3 or better. This baccalaureate program provides students an opportunity to study turfgrass science in conjunction with courses in soil science and fertility, pest control, business management, landscape design, and ornamental horticulture. Adequate opportunities are provided for students to gain practical experiences from classes held at the Plant Science Teaching and Research Facility in addition to independent study projects. Internships are available and allow students an opportunity to work closely with professionals in the industry.
