Copan Ruins A traveler's guide to the Copan ruins in western honduras, part of the Mayan Indian culture. http://www.copanruins.com/
Extractions: by Warren Post Nestled in the mountains of western Honduras, Santa Rosa de Copan offers an agreeable change from tourist traps and scorching cities. Its cool mountain climate, fine colonial architecture with narrow cobbled streets, and a reputation for friendliness combine to make Santa Rosa de Copan one of the region's most pleasant places to visit. Off the gringo trail, Santa Rosa isn't overrun with travelers. And its strategic location makes Santa Rosa a good base for day trips to the surrounding area. Santa Rosa is noted for the excellent hand rolled cigars produced by Flor deCopan, makers of the famous Zino line. The factory, located two blocks west ofthe central plaza (open 8am - 5pm Monday-Friday, 8 - 11 am Saturday) allows visitors to enter and view the process. An interpretative tour in English or Spanish is available; inquire at Pizza Pizza. Just as Santa Rosa is famous abroad for its cigars, it is known among Hondurans as a center of cultural activity. The Casa de la Cultura (1/2 block south of thecentral plaza) offers frequent exhibitions, performances, readings, and concerts. Be sure to ask about upcoming events. Coffee lovers will want to visit Beneficio Maya, where fine coffee is graded and roasted for export. Aside from being able to view the process, visitors can buy fresh export grade coffee. Take a taxi to the beneficio (US$0.50/person), as it's a little hard to find.

The biodiversity in the broad-leafed forest is very high, and it is an excellent ecosystem in which to see abundant wildlife. Secrets of a real-estate developer: How I built a profitable Roatan resort on a shoestring budget - Six years ago, Frank Canale started Sundancer, one of the most successful small scale real-estate developments on the island of Roatan. "For a number of years, I developed real estate in Arkansas and Colorado... retirement and golf communities mostly. But after my wife and I had children, I knew I wanted to bring them up in a more relaxed, more family-oriented place, and my wife and I wanted to try home schooling. We also wanted to go somewhere warm and I was looking for a place where I could make a living with a small real estate project. With these things in mind we began our search for a place to relocate".

Extractions: Cultural Values Family recreation often revolves around religious festivals honoring local saints. Family loyalty is an ingrained and unquestioned virtue; from early childhood, individuals learn that relatives are to be trusted and relied on, whereas those outside the family are, implicitly at least, suspect. Public disapproval follows only if the man fails to assume the role of "head of the family" and to support his children. Girls are expected to be quiet and helpful; boys enjoy much greater freedom, and they are given considerable latitude in their behavior
