Homeopathy is not vitamin therapy or herbs. Samuel Hahnemann, M.D., Began the science of homeopathy almost 200 years ago. He realized that drugs and surgery were unable to bring about true healing for anything but traumatic injuries. He saw that drugs removed symptoms temporarily. When the drugs were discontinued, the symptoms usually returned, often stronger than before. Through careful and extensive experimentation, Dr. Hahnemann documented the principle of homeopathy, the law of similars, or "like cures like." Before going further, I must lay a little ground work. Everything in the universe is composed of matter (physical stuff) and energy. That's what Einstein's theory of relativity says. In reality, everything is composed almost entirely of energy (over 99 percent). Everything includes living creatures. Homeopaths call the energy in our bodies the "vital force." It is responsible for health and healing. When this vital force is disturbed, it causes symptoms. Skin rashes, diarrhea, diabetes, cancer, etc. are the results of a disturbed vital force. Drugs and surgery address only the symptoms. Yet there is no awareness in "conventional medicine" that the vital force even exists. No wonder there is no attempt to heal it. Since this underlying disturbance is not treated, health problems usually become chronic. They may return over and over with the same symptoms, such as repeated skin eruptions, or they may change form. After years of cortisone therapy for itchy skin, many pets get other "diseases" such as cancer or diabetes. The disturbance in the vital force not only progresses without any attempt to help it, but the body is continually poisoned by a very damaging drug. As a result, more serious problems arise.

Buot is among the roughly 40 percent of the French population who use homeopathic medicine to treat everything from colds, flu and measles to depression, anxiety and insomnia. The same percentage of clinical physicians regularly use homeopathy in their practices, and the French government reimburses the cost of homeopathic medicines. The right remedy for a particular condition addresses all of these aspects and requires a highly individualized diagnosis.

Two scales are used, X and C. A 1X solution means the original medicine (the "mother tincture") was diluted with water, alcohol, or whatever to one part in ten, or 1/10; 2X is 1/100; 3X is 1/1,000; etc. A 1C solution is 1/100, 2C is 1/10,000, 3C is 1/1,000,000, and so on. Most homeopathic remedies range from 6X to 30X. At 30X, chances are that a given dose of the medicine doesn’t contain a single molecule of the original, but some dilutions go a lot higher than that. I’ve heard of one cold remedy with a dilution of 200C, which mathematically is less than one molecule per all the known matter in the universe. How, then, can homeopathy possibly work? Apologists fall back on far-fetched explanations involving energy and vibrations and so on. A key step in the manufacture of homeopathic medicines is "succussion," in which the mixture is vigorously shaken at each stage of the dilution process. This miraculously unlocks the healing power of the medicinal substance. Could be just my Catholic background talking, but that sounds like making holy water to me.
