Extractions: ALLIED HEALTH OCCUPATIONS SKILLS LAB INFORMATION The Skills Lab serves as an adjunct to didactic and clinical learning for both Licensed Vocational Nursing students and Certified Nursing students. As of January, 2005, LVN students will be required to attend the Skills Lab on average, one hour per week, or eight hours per quarter. In addition, both LVN and CNA students may be sent to the Skills Lab by their instructors for practice and subsequent testing of specific tasks, should they fail to accurately and appropriately perform this task in the clinical setting or need . SKILLS LAB MANAGEMENT Skills Lab is offered every Thursday from 1300-1800 throughout the semester. Students are encouraged to sign up prior to each Thursdays session so instructors have an indication of the number of students and types of activities on which students plan to work. Students are required to sign in and out upon arrival and departure and list the activities theyve worked on. Hours are then posted on Blackboard for students and instructors reference. Faculty, staff, a student tutor, and a skills lab coordinator share mentoring responsibilities. The goal of the Medical and Health related services program at Kendall Demonstration Elementary School is to identify and address a students health related needs to maximize the learning capabilities of each child. Nurses, Occupational Therapists and a Physical Therapist are available on site to facilitate integration of these specialty areas into a childs daily school environment. Availability of these specialists in-house is instrumental to assuring that students are ready to address the challenges of their educational program. The KDES Health Services Program is coordinated by two registered nurses, and the goals of the program are to identify each students health needs and to maintain and improve the health status of every student in order to maximize the learning capabilities of each child. To achieve these goals, the nurses integrate their services within the instructional teams incorporating health teaching into the classroom activities, into each student contact and into their work with the students families. The nurses participate in student review and individual education plan meetings with the instructional staff and the students families. They make referrals to community agencies and serve as health advocates for the students and their families in obtaining appropriate health services. The nurses help students and their families develop health care literacy and to make the transition from home to the communities in which they live.

The sample survey data are from the NCES News reports frequently discuss the shortage of elementary/secondary teachers in the United States. Increasing enrollments, particularly in the elementary grades; increasing rates of retirement among teachers; and the efforts of states and localities to reduce class size may well have contributed to many of these shortages (Johnson 2001). In recent years, enrollments in public and private elementary and secondary schools have grown considerably, and most expect that they will continue to climb through 2005, after which they are expected to drop slightly through 2010 ( Gerald and Hussar 2000 ). Nevertheless, shortages may well continue, since the proportion of teachers who retire each year is expected to rise (Goodnough 2000). As experienced baby-boomer teachers retire, they are likely to be replaced by young and inexperienced teachers, whose attrition rates are higher than those of mid-career teachers (Archer 1999; Grissmer and Kirby 1997).
