KITV 4 News Email This Story Print This Story POSTED: 10:01 p.m. HST December 14, 2000 The U.S. Army said Thursday night that it has completed an environment impact statement into the effect of military exercises in Makua Valley. Army officials told Waianae community members that the scaled-down exercises would have no significant impact on the environment of the area. "The first obligation we is to protect the cultural sites and the environment in our training area," Major Gen. James Dubik said. "The second obligation is to make sure that the citizens who are now soldiers, sons and daughters, are as best trained as possible." Makua Valley has been used by the Army as a training ground since World War II. The Army voluntarily suspended all training in Makua two years ago because of fires from ammunition. The army said it will no longer use ammunition that could start fires such as tracers, rockets or missile systems. Officials said they would also limit the size of units in the area to 160 soldiers. Many residents who attended the meeting at the Waianae Army Recreation Center said that they were disappointed that they couldn't see the actual report.

Cannabisnews.com: DEA: Drug Money Funds Terror Group Several weeks ago there was an article about a study in hawaii about the ICE I don t have a laptop so I ll have to depend on internet cafes, libaries http://www.cannabisnews.com/news/thread13955.shtml
Extractions: Federal authorities have amassed evidence for the first time that an illegal drug operation in the United States was funneling proceeds to Middle East terrorist groups like Hezbollah. Evidence gathered by the Drug Enforcement Administration since a series of raids in January indicates that a methamphetamine drug operation in the Midwest involving men of Middle Eastern descent has been shipping money back to terrorist groups, officials said. "There is increasing intelligence information from the investigation that for the first time alleged drug sales in the United States are going in part to support terrorist organizations in the Middle East," DEA administrator Asa Hutchinson said Friday. DEA officials said the men, most of whom were indicted on drug charges after their January arrests, were smuggling large quantities of the chemical pseudoephedrine from Canada into the Midwest. Officials said the smuggling went through two primary Midwest locations, Chicago and Detroit, and involved several men with ties to Jordan, Yemen, Lebanon and other Middle East countries. There is no evidence that any of the money was connected to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, officials said.

Extractions: The first Weeks The first week of this class was for me confusing. While I have had a little experience on computters, nothing came close to what I was about to experiece. The instructions seemed clear, however. upon my arrival at the clic lab I soon knew that This task was going to require a lot of hard work and effort. While I made the best attempts possible in class to prepare myself with good notes and general comprehension of the materal, I soon felt myself in a state of panic when things did'nt work out as I thought they should. Give it a wirl My first attempt was by all means a tragidy. It was atthis point that I felt that this class was going to be a nightmare. And at this point,I still feel like this a majority of the tine. These are all typical of people who are new to information. My first few hours on the computer were just getting to know how the system worked. I've never worked on this type of computer and was almost completly lost. I thought this might be the case after the first class was over and I was so information shocked that I thought about dropping the class. As that first week went by I did feel a little better about working on the internet and was more confortable with the computer. Then the next class rolled around and a new set of problems faced me, was this going anxiety going to last the duration of this class?

I DON'T want to be a hostage... kathyhirokane 04/09/01 1:41 PM more strike rage on saturday my boyfriend and i went to his grandparents house for a get together. of course the subject of the strike came up, and his uncle said that the teachers are using the kids as leverage to get their raises and that the only reason why they are striking now is because graduation is coming up and there will be an urgency to give the teachers their demands. well, what he didn't know was that his nephew's girlfriend (who was sitting with us)is a teacher. of course she didn't say anything, but we all were like, stunned. he shouldn't have said that, especially in front of her since she is involved in it. and anyways....the teachers would not do such a thing anyways! silverfox2001 04/12/01 7:23 AM RE: Strikers Its call the first ammendment right what you are doing but I feel sad for your girlfriend sister I feel bad for her because she is so timid. I would not want to be in her shoes knowing that these professors got radical in my approaching campus. However, you have to stand up for what you believe in. So I take my hat off to you.

Betty Bowen was born Betty Cornelius in 1919 in Kent, Washington, and raised in Skagit County. After graduating from the University of Washington in 1940, she worked first as a reporter for the Seattle Times , then as women's editor at the Seattle Star . She subsequently did free-lance public relations work. Bowen's personal commitment to the well being of local artists was legendary, and she was known as "the den mother of the city's arts." She did not merely provide artists with valuable public exposure and introductions to wealthy art patrons. Her support often extended to feeding and clothing her artist friends during lean times. She befriended and nurtured painters Morris Graves (whom she first met as a teenager), Mark Tobey, Richard Gilkey and others of their generation, and later Charles Krafft and the writer Tom Robbins.
