Benchmark Events During the 21 years the AUF now known as recreational Aviation Bill Bennett demonstrated the hang glider to the USA by gliding a tow launched Rogallo http://www.auf.asn.au/operations/benchmarks.html
Extractions: The Australian Ultralight Federation [AUF] was formed during the 1983 convention of the Sports Aircraft Association of Australia; subsequently the AUF signed a memorandum of agreement with the then Civil Aviation Authority [CAA] for the administration of Ultralight Aviation in Australia. During the 21 years the AUF now known as Recreational Aviation Australia Inc [RA-Aus] has been in existence very light recreational and sports aviation has experienced considerable growth, certainly there has been much growth in AUF/RA-Aus membership, in numbers of ultralight aeroplanes, flight training facilities and clubs but, far more importantly, there has been real growth in knowledge, effectiveness and safety. Ultralight Aviation is no longer purely the realm of dedicated minimum aircraft afficionados but has matured into an authoritative industry well endowed with professional aviation business people and a number of commercial ultralight factories in regional Australia, currently producing most of the Australian-made factory fly-away aircraft civil or military. In addition these factories, and other producers, supply aircraft kits for the many home-building enthusiasts both in Australia and overseas. At the same time there are many RA-Aus members who are exercising their skills in designing and building their own single seat ultralight aircraft or constructing them from commercially available plans. Ultralight Aviation also fostered the growth of the sole existing Australian manufacturer of certificated aero engines Jabiru Aircraft.

Extractions: by Bodhi Kroll. Hang Gliding Contra Costa Times . August, 1998. Would you like to do what you love, hang gliding or paragliding, 300 days a year, and earn $250 to $350 a day doing it? Is it possible to make a living working only three or four days a week and a great living if one is willing to work five or six days a week flying? That's exactly what I've managed to do. After 16 years of hang gliding for sport, teaching and instructional tandem flight, I opened the San Francisco Hang Gliding Center (SFHGC). This is a successful business, not only for me, but for two other full-time instructors (and we could use even more). But getting to this point was quite a task. It involved a lot of hard work, planning and negotiating with state and county officials but it was all worth it. Here's how it all began. In June of 1984, at the age of 18, inspired by a series of intense flying dreams since boyhood in Berkeley, California, watching red tail hawks and turkey vultures soaring over the hills, and television shows featuring our sport, I signed up for some lessons at a local hang gliding operation in Fremont, California (Mission Soaring Center). I saved money from newspaper routes, bussing dishes in a local eatery and doing scut-work at Mission Soaring. My first glider was a Harrier 177.
Extractions: Come meet the people who will take you flying! Since its inception in 1997, the San Francisco Hang Gliding Center has been granted for the first time ever in the Bay Area a contract to offer Tandem instruction to the public. We have maintained our perfect safety record using extreme caution, attention to detail, and some of the best pilots around. All our instructors have between 11 and 32 years of experience. Demand has been so high that we now have a crew of the worlds most talented and dedicated instructors. Ever since he was a young boy, David Beerman has been enthralled by dreams of flying. So, when the sport of hang gliding emerged in the early 70's, David seized his chance to make a dream come true! In 1974, he began flying the first gliders to be built of aluminum tubing and dacron sailcloth. By 1976, he had earned his Advanced pilot rating. In 1985, he began taking friends and family members "tandem" in his hang glider.

Parks, People And Outdoor Activities - Recreation Management hanggliding is provided from one site near Mt Dandenong. The recreation opportunity spectrum (ROS) concept provides a long-term strategy for http://www.parkweb.vic.gov.au/education/parks_people/ca5.htm
Extractions: An Extract from Dandenong Ranges Management Plan (Sec 7.2) The Park attracts about one million visitors a year, almost half the number visiting public land in the Dandenong Ranges. Planning for recreational use of the Park cannot be considered in isolation from other attractions in the Dandenongs, such as the many gardens, public reserves, picnic areas and lookouts. There is considerable imbalance in use between the various parts of the Park and other public land with 70 per cent of visitors to public land going to Ferntree Gully and Sherbrooke Units and Mt Dandenong. Scope exists for better distribution of visitor use and redesign of facilities and rationalisation of the network of tracks and entry points to the Park. This would improve visitor circulation and enjoyment of the Park, and would reduce over-use and degradation of popular areas. The main attractions of the Park are bushland, tall forest, wildlife, and scenery. Nature appreciation, picnicking and walking are the main activities. There is also limited horse riding, jogging and running. Hang-gliding is provided from one site near Mt Dandenong. Most users of the Park are residents of the north-eastern and eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
