STEVE ALBERT fellow gymnasts went on strike when I had to quit gym for personal reasons . BHS memories A happy time in general. Some of the most amusing memories http://www.dartmouth.edu/~kbaker/bios.html
Extractions: STEVE ALBERT Malibu, CA Family: Laurie and I celebrated our 25 th wedding anniversary last year. Our oldest son, Sandy, will be a senior at Skidmore College and daughter, Mimi, a sophomore at Barnard. Our youngest son, Todd, is now 11 and an avid tennis player. We have been living in Malibu for 10 years now and intend to finally remodel our house. We do get back to Boston or New England almost every year. I try to visit extended family of Alberts, weddings etc. BHS memories: As years go by, I am increasingly nostalgic. Kenny Baker visited me several months ago and I claimed that everyone looks or sounds the same. Since I have been in L.A. for so long, my biggest BHS memories are more of growing up in Brookline and explaining snow, streetcars and high school to my kids. Just life as a kid in 1960; selling sub sandwiches in Harvard, B.U. and M.I.T. dorms with Elliot Cuker and his brother. If anybody had a car, going out as a group to pizza places in Central Square or ice cream places on the north shore. The real loyalty of my friends who would pick me up on a Friday or Saturday night at 9pm when I finished work at the New England Food Fair on Harvard St. THOMAS AMIRIAN JR.

"He could walk up and down the back stairs to the parking lot on his hands," Cahoy said. "We thought that was really something." Cahoy would later coach gymnastics at Sokol, as Fight did. Cahoy, too, developed a reputation for walking around on his hands, and there was more than a little Fight in his teaching methods, which would have a profound effect on the development of Nebraska as a gymnastics Mecca in later years.

Extractions: By ATHENS, Greece ATHENS, Greece - Gymnasts called for a major change in how their performances are judged on Tuesday following a spate of disputed medals that have tarnished the sport, while a top official blamed human error for the controversy. "Just like gymnasts are human and can make mistakes, judges are also human and can make mistakes," Adrian Stoica, the head of the ruling body's (FIG) men's technical committee, told Reuters. Stoica was the official who had to intervene in the judging process during Monday's horizontal bar final after the crowd stalled proceedings for almost 10 minutes when Alexei Nemov was awarded a low score for his spectacular routine. Although the Russian's initial mark of 9.725 was amended to 9.762 following Stoica's intervention, the incident brought to the fore the injustice many gymnasts have felt during the competition in Athens.
Extractions: ASK THE OLYMPIC EXPERT Filip Bondy MSNBC While U.S. track and field stars play legal tag with the courts and the Anti-Drug Agency, glamour has little patience for such scandal. Athletes from other Olympic sports may find Athens a golden opportunity to claim the spotlight from their once-glamorous, now-tainted cousins. NBC is likely to fixate on gymnastics, early and often. The sport has been largely untouched by the ugly drug rumors that circle athletes like Marion Jones, Michelle Collins and Tim Montgomery. There is still an air of innocence to the competition, even if the athletes put their own bodies through the worst forms of caloric deprivation and physical torment. For those Americans like their heroines compact and squeaky-voiced, there should be plenty to cheer about. On paper, at least, the deep women's team is better than the one that limped away with the gold in Atlanta, when Kerri Strug vaulted unnecessarily on an already-injured ankle, at the urging of controversial coach Bela Karolyi.

Bart Conner was a part of the first U.S. men's team to win the Olympic gold medal in 80 years at the 1984 Los Angeles Games. While Nadia began her Olympic career with a 10.0, Connor ended his with a perfect score and gold medal in the parallel bars. Now the two icons of gymnastics are married and they often make appearances together, stressing the need to F.O.C.U.S. Our happiness and self-confidence can be enhanced if we focus on daily improvements. That way, at the end of every day, we feel some sense of accomplishment, instead of feeling the burden of "just thirteen more years of this and I might get a chance to compete for my country." Even if you get to compete, you might still feel unfulfilled, because after going to the Olympics, just being there is no longer enough. You will want a medal, and then you may want to try to repeat as a medalist. So, as you can see, if you focus just on the results, it may never be enough.
