February 2005 - Girl Guides Members Night History of the girl Guide Movement in Traralgon a ScoutTroop (in later years there were to be nine Scout Troops and eight Cub Packs). http://www.gardencentre.com.au/traralgonhistory/bulletinjune2005/feb2005girlguid
Extractions: February 2005 Speaker: Nola Mathews Adventurous activities for girls was something new but the first meeting of Girl Guides in Traralgon was held in June 1924. Girls aged 11 to 15 years paid six pence registration, wore a navy hat, one-piece navy dress, leather belt, black stockings, and a triangle-shaped tie. Deaconess Warren was appointed Commissioner; Eva West, Captain; and Mrs Layton, Lieutenant. They enrolled Alice Bell, Ethelwyn Leonard and M Stayner, while Estelle DuVe, Freda Kerr, Melva Christensen, Bertha Wigg, Nellie Fawkner, Norma Scott, Muriel Layton, and Marjorie Whitney worked on their pre-enrolment tests. Eva West received her warrant on 9 th April 1925 and the First Traralgon Girl Guide Company was officially registered on 5 th May 1925. Scouting and guiding inter-challenge activities were held at an annual field day and Dentist, Mr A. E. Hall, donated a silver rose bowl as a perpetual trophy. Guides and Rangers in each town played competitive basketball (to travel from town-to-town, one of the dads supplied his truck to which church seats were roped) and in 1931 the Traralgon Guides were the district basketball champions, having to travel to Melbourne to play the metropolitan champions. When Rev. Blundell left Traralgon he donated a shield for Guides and Scouts to annually compete in activities including fire-lighting (with only two matches to be used), outdoor cooking, star gazing, stalking, tracking, trail blazing, tent pitching, identifying flora and fauna, and following coded messages to reach a destination.

Guide To Safe Scouting: Appendix Cub Scout Meeting Guide It Happened to Me. Stepby-Step Guide for Using theYouth Protection Video, Philip s baby-sitter, a 15-year-old girl http://www.scouting.org/pubs/gss/forms/guides/pack.html
Extractions: Obtain the video, It Happened to Me, from your local council service center and review it. (Invite members of the pack committee t o review it with you.) If, after viewing the video, you decide that you would like support from individuals more informed about child abuse, such help is often available from your police department or child protective services agency. Reserve a copy of the video for the date on which you plan to use it with your pack or den. At least two weeks before showing the video to your unit, notify the parents about the scheduled meeting and urge their attendance. (The sample letter for parents may be used for this purpose.) The video is intended for Cub Scout-age boys to watch only when their parent or guardian is present. Before the meeting at which the video will be shown, review the leader's guide and become familiar with the issues to be emphasized in the discussion following the video's showing. Show the video at a special pack or den meeting. (See the suggested agenda for this meeting.)

SCOUTING And GUIDING BOOKS SCOUT CUB AUTHORS BROWNIE and GUIDE AUTHORS. Lord Robert Baden Powell beganScouting almost Entitled girl Guiding it replaced the earlier book. http://www.collectingbooksandmagazines.com/scouting.html
Extractions: BROWNIE and GUIDE AUTHORS Lord Robert Baden Powell began Scouting almost 100 years ago with an experimental camp on Brown Sea Island in Portsmouth Harbour, UK, in 1907. Here he had a cross-section of boys from many different ways of life and from many parts of the UK. This was so successful that 'BP' (as he became known) went on to publish his book ' Scouting for Boys ' in fortnightly parts. Boys were very soon forming Patrols of Scouts all over the UK and beyond. In 1909 'BP' held a large rally at Crystal Palace, London, where boys came to join in the many activities. As well as the boys there was a small group of girls who had registered as Boy Scouts by just using initials instead of names. 'BP' inspected them together with the boys and realised that the girls needed a movement of their own. He asked his sister Miss Agnes Baden Powell to help. She wrote her book '

Newsreader Clients InterNews, a sophisticated USENET reader available at: ftp://ftp.dartmouth.edu/pub/mac/. A somewhat less sophisticated, but very usable newsgroup reader called NewsWatcher is available at: http://hyperarchive.lcs.mit.edu/HyperArchive/Archive/comm/inet/newswatcher-222-jp1.hqx. Internet Relay Chat Client Search for IRCLE on the InfoMac Hyperarchive. 1.2 PC Basics The best site today is http://www.winsite.com for all your Windows network software needs. This site is mirrored at http://wuarchive.wustl.edu (fsp, gopher), ftp.cica.indiana.edu(ftp, fsp, gopher), oak.oakland.edu (ftp) and their mirror sites.
