Extractions: Colorado USA This page lists every country in the world, with key information about each country's Scouting program(s). What is Scouting? I prefer to define "Scouting" simply as any program that does its best to follow the Scouting concepts originally defined by Baden-Powell. Given that more and more Scouting organizations are partially or fully coed, it has become impossible to maintain the traditional distinction between "Boy Scouting" and "Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting". Since Baden-Powell founded both movements, and since many former Boy Scout and Girl Guide/Girl Scout organizations have merged, I have included here all Scout/Guide organizations, regardless of whether they are male-only, female-only, or coed. I use the terms "Scout" and "Scouting" as they are used throughout the world to apply to male or female participants and their organizations (female participants have been called both Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, depending on the country or organization, from the earliest days up through today).
Welcome To The Calgary SpacePort! Scouting groups (including Beavers, cubs, and scouts) usually visit in the evenings . For more information about girl guides Canada click here. http://www.calgaryspaceport.com/about/scouting.html
Extractions: As many Scouts Canada leaders already know, SpacePort is a great destination for Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts. We are a non-profit education and entertainment facility offering learning and hands-on activities focusing on space and aeronautics. We use the latest innovations in computer, simulation, and communications technology to help make space and aeronautics fun and accessible to Scouting groups of all levels. SpacePort first opened in September of 2000 and has since welcomed countless Beaver, Cub, and Scout groups from across Calgary and the surrounding areas. SpacePort offers stageshows, workshops, activities, and hands-on exhibits pertaining to space and aeronautics to help encourage interest in these fields. These include Dock the Shuttle, Mars Odyssey, Air Pressured Rockets, the Fly-a-Plane wind tunnel, and more! Members of your group can step inside a real 1947 Beaver plane, check out a real moon rock, see what astronauts eat in space, read part of the Mir space station operations manual, or marvel at 1/4-scale space shuttle on long-term loan from NASA.

The Scots and Guides merged in 1989 and the organization is now called Pfadfinder und Pfadfinderinnen. HSH Prince Nikolaus and his sister HSH Princess Nora are honorry members. Major events in Liechtenstein Scouting are both summer, fall, and winter camps. There are about 820 members in 2002, somewhat more boys than girls. The Main Liechtensteion Scout association are the Pfadfinder und Pfadfinderinnen which is recognized by the WOSM. There is a second association active in Lichtenstein, the Pfadfindergruppe Maria Enzersdorf/Liechtenstein. They are a member of the Pfadfinder und Pfadfinderinnen Österreichs [Scouts and Guides of Austria]. I wonder what may underlie these differences. Liechtenstein is a country with some 15.000 inhabitants in six villages, measuring approx. 15 by 6 kilometers. There cannot be more than just a few Scout troops, yet they belong to two different umbrella organizations. The Pfadfinder und Pfadfinderinnen have four levls of Scoting: Cubs/Brownies (7-11 years), Boy Scouts.Girl Guides (11-15 years), Pioneers (15-18 years, and Roivers (18 years and older). The Pfadfindergruppe Maria Enzersdorf/Liechtenstein call their 10 to 13 year olds "Späher"and their 13 - 16 year old's "Explorer" as indeed do the Scouts in Austria.

Extractions: The Library These pages give a brief over view of the History of Scouting and some of the changes that have happened to the movement over its history, this is viewed mainly from a British perspective. More details can be found on related pages. Baden-Powell returned to England a national hero, after defending the town of Mafeking (Mafikeng as it is now spelled) for seven months from the besieging Boer troops, the first real British triumph in the Boer War. When he returned to England, he discovered that many boys and young men were avidly reading his book Aids to Scouting . This book was intended as a military training manual, teaching soldiers techniques such as observation, tracking, initiative... B-P. met with various influential people in youth movements across the country, and was persuaded to write a version of Aids to Scouting aimed at teenage boys, Scouting for Boys was published in 1908 (after a camp on Brownsea Island, Poole Harbour, Dorset, where B-P. tried out his ideas on four patrols of boys from London and Bournemouth).

Extractions: Katri Vaiste (GB) Having come to Finland in 1910, the Girl Guides and Boy Scouts have been in Finland for longer than there has been an independent Finland. Their history in Finland is deeply intertwined with that of the country itself, and is something all Finns have a positive opinion about. But how were Finns introduced to the movement? Are the Finnish Scouts and Guides different from or similar to other Scouts and Guides? What is it that they actually do? And what do the Finnish people think about them? The Founding of the Scout Movement The Scouting Movement in Finland Scouting came to Finland via several different routes. The new influences came both from Sweden and Russia ( Suomen Partiolaiset ). "Scouting for Boys", a book written by Baden-Powell in 1908, was translated into Swedish in 1910 and both the English and the Swedish versions were in active use in Finland. Also magazines for children and the young published several articles on this new movement. Several people became interested in these new ideas of learning and having fun at the same time (Rissa 150). Not much written information about the first local groups has survived through the years, but in 1910 there were local groups in several towns. Mostly they were independent groups which were not aware of the others. The winter 1910-11 was very active in terms of founding new groups. The Finnish name was not yet standardized; several versions were used, from the English name to different Finnish words, one of them being
