Alternative Schools - Private Boarding Schools alternative schools â These schools are not just training grounds for the armed forces but also in many other fields. http://www.militaryschooloptions.com/education.html
Extractions: Contact us today to get help for struggling teens With the quality of most public schools dwindling as a result of increased enrollment and decreased funding, many parents seek alternative schools to educate their children. Effective alternatives include private schools whose focus is a military style of discipline and education. Military schools provide cadets with the traditional college prep curriculum found in public schools, but the quality of teaching often exceeds that found in public school. Since most military schools are also a boarding school, many times the teachers are fully dedicated to the students and can offer extra academic assistance. In addition to a quality education, cadets can expect to have organized daily study time to ensure they complete their assignments and keep from falling behind.

The Camden County Board of Education unanimously approved a policy to conduct drug testing on seventh- to 12th-grade students who play on sports teams, engage in other intrascholastic activities or want to park their cars on campus. Under the revised plan approved Tuesday night, 20 percent of students in any activity will be tested at the beginning of the year. Two other times during the year, another 20 percent will be tested. Students who test positive will receive counseling and be subjected to more testing. If a student tests positive a second time, he or she will be suspended from competitive activities for up to one year. Students found under the influence of drugs at school could be suspended or sent to an alternative school. Parents may request that their child be tested at no cost to the family, and students themselves may request counseling. A proposed federal law would require school administrators to notify authorities if a student fails a drug test.

Extractions: Your Letters from the Field Note: In Revolutionary America, colonists often communicated their news and ideas through well organized circular letters that reached far into rural areas and provided clear evidence of unity in the cause of freedom. These columns serve similar purposes. They include views of the writers, and not always those of the Rural Challenge. Georgia's Burke County Parent Group Affects School Bus Policies In the spring of 1999 the Burke County School Board made several changes to bus transportation policies that will benefit children traveling to school from Keysville, Georgia a predominantly African American rural community approximately 25 miles from the nearest public school located in the County seat. The Board will now provide a late bus for all Keysville students participating in after-school activities, add a new Keysville bus route (lessening the hour-long trip each way), and hire bus monitors. These changes resulted from the organizing efforts of the Center for Children and Education and the Burke County Parent Group on Public Education, organized in September 1998 by parents disturbed by the County's exceptionally high bus and school suspension and dropout rates.* Many parents specifically became involved because they felt their children had been unfairly disciplined, often resulting in bus and school suspensions which, in turn, lead to chronic absenteeism and grade retention.
