Transnational Issue Introduction Sudan Background: Military regimes favoring Islamic-oriented governments have dominated national politics since independence from the UK in 1956. Sudan has been embroiled in a civil war for all but 10 years of this period (1972-82). The wars are rooted in northern economic, political, and social domination of non-Muslim, non-Arab southern Sudanese. Since 1983, the war and war- and famine-related effects have led to more than 2 million deaths and over 4 million people displaced. The ruling regime is a mixture of military elite and an Islamist party that came to power in a 1989 coup. Some northern opposition parties have made common cause with the southern rebels and entered the war as a part of an anti-government alliance. Peace talks gained momentum in 2002-03 with the signing of several accords, including a cease-fire agreement.

Career Resources Dermatology Kristin Balckum UVA If You Are It will be expensive, but it s worth it in the end, and it s fun to see new places . Hey! So begins your hunt. I would recommend the following resources http://www.wfubmc.edu/school/AOA/CareerResources.htm
Extractions: Research is a very good thing to do to help get in, so I would highly recommend trying to help with some sort of dermatology research project. You can do research between 1st and 2nd year, and you can also do a dermatology research rotation during 4th year. Dr. McMichael has takes on some medical students for her research. The man in charge of most research in derm at Wake is Dr. Steve Feldman. He has a ton of projects going on and has research fellows working with him. He will always do his best to help you get at least one publication and usually several publications. If you decide to apply to dermatology, talk to Dr. Joe Jorizzo about programs. He will tell you the good and bad about programs, and he doesn't mind going through them all with you. He is also a good person to get a letter from. He is very well known and respected. He will probably recommend that you apply to at least 30 programs. Other faculty may recommend that you apply to 60 programs. You will not hear about interview offers as soon as your classmates. Every dermatology program waits until the Dean's letters go out (11/1) before offering interviews. Most programs start offering after Thanksgiving. Some will even offer after Christmas. Also, keep in mind that most people applying to dermatology get interviews at 25% or less of the places that they apply. Don't worry about rejections. They will come...frequently. Most programs only interview less than 50 people...many interview less than 20. It's because dermatology programs are so small. If you have around 10 interviews total, you are doing very well. Enjoy the interviews, they are usually fun. Most programs do not pay for your hotel, so be prepared to spend money. You can take out a residency loan in order to pay for applications, hotels, and flights. It will be expensive, but it's worth it in the end, and it's fun to see new places.

Extractions: Required of major and Graduate Students G Geography is probably the most fascinating subject for people wanting to understand the world. Like very few other disciplines, it crosses over the human and natural sciences; geographers study why mountains and rivers occur where they do, but also study such things as cultural boundaries, urban organization, and population distribution. You might think of geography as a "spatial" discipline, just as history is a temporal one. To understand what happens where, you need to have an open mind and delve a bit into other disciplines.
