Extractions: In June 2000 I found a ship manifest for the Ship Nestorian arriving in NYC on March 9, 1849 from Liverpool. Most of my McGovern ancestors were listed on the ship manifest and stated they were from Ballinamore, County Leitrim, Ireland. A few months later I found the Tithe Applotment Survey (a Irish Census) taken in 1833 in County Leitrim, and there I found my GG Grandfather, James McGovern, living in the townland of Aghlin, next door to a James Cullen. Cullen is the surname of my GG Grandmother, Mary Cullen. Aghlin is about five miles to the west of Ballinamore. Scotland: Genealogy o The Scottish component of the UK and Ireland genealogy Pages o Details of general genealogy Resources. o The WWW genealogy Home Page o A list of http://www.geo.ed.ac.uk/home/scotland/genealogy.html
Extractions: This is collection of resources designed to assist those wishing to trace their Scottish Ancestry. We are very lucky in Scotland to have a fairly good system of records for those wishing to trace their family histories. Compulsory registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages was introduced in 1855 and these records are accessible and held by the General Register Office for Scotland . The GRO(S) also hold parish registers before that (the earliest is Errol in Perthshire which goes back to 1553, but most are rather later than this). The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (the Mormons), who have a religious duty to trace their ancestors, have copied the parish records and included them in their databases . Local libraries in Scotland may also hold copies, as will the family history societies, a number of which are listed below. The last major source of information is the GENIUK project which collects information and resources on British (including Scottish) and Irish genealogy. If you know of any other appropriate sites, relating either to Scottish Genealogy, or to Scottish family names or crests, please
Extractions: Primarily, we are seeking the family of Gilbert Baldwin and Sarah Waddell. The first clear clue we have is Gilbert in Gallia County, Ohio, arriving from "Upper Canada" around 1815. Prior to that, we have conflicting information: New York, Virginia, Ireland, Vermont, etc. We believe that Gilbert's father was Daniel Baldwin, (from England), married to a ? Paley. Gilbert's first wife, Lindsey (also referred to as Malinda), King died, leaving him with two small children (Elizabeth and Jared). He married Sarah Waddell, and they had four children: John, Mary Francis, William, and James. John, William, and James were Blacksmiths. Mary married Francis Howe. Gilbert and Sarah migrated from Gallia County, OH, to Montgomery County, Indiana, (1830s) to Michigan City, Indiana, where Gilbert Baldwin was one of the first settlers. Gilbert died in 1836. I am a descendent of William Baldwin. William died at the age of 27 of Typhoid fever in the Civil War. He is buried at Grafton National Cemetery, West Virginia. William married Eliza Cummins, who died in 1853, at the age of 25. They had three children: John, Anjalin, and Francis. William then married Eliza's sister, Susannah. They had three more children: Eliza Ellen, Sarah Asenath, and William Bertram. My line continues through William Betram Baldwin.

He was condemned to be burned for his faith by Mary (Bloody Mary). Three days before his execution date, she died (17 November 1558) and Elizabeth came to the throne. Elizabeth restored his estates, conferred the royal ermine on his arms, and gave him the family motto, Tenex-Et-Fide (Steadfast In Faith) , the much valued heritage of his descendants.

Homestead National Monument Of America genealogy and homestead records. The paperwork required of homesteaders The legal land description of a homestead may be found in the general Land http://www.nps.gov/home/geneology.html
Extractions: Genealogy and homestead records The paperwork required of homesteaders before they could obtain a patent , or title, to part of the public domain resulted in exceptionally detailed land records. Called land-entry case files , these records describe improvements made to the property, including houses constructed, wells dug, crops planted, trees cleared, and fences built. Some case files mention family members who lived on the land. If the claimant died and a widow or heirs completed the homesteading process, a date of death is given and relationships are explained. Because military service could reduce the residency period, information regarding such service is sometimes included. Resident aliens who had declared their intention to become citizens provided information about their naturalization process and occasionally even mentioned place of origin. In other words, the land-entry case files of homesteaders are an important source of genealogical information. Location of land-entry case files All land-entry case files are held by the National Archives in downtown Washington, D.C.
