Extractions: I have here fractals which I made in experimenting with Stephen Ferguson's fractal programs Sterlingware, Grafzvizion, Vchira, Tierazon, Ktaza, and Inkblot. In experimenting with Fractal Explorer, fractals which I made with it are included here. Also I have some fractals which I created with Ultra Fractal , and I have screen captures of wonderful graphic designs made by the GlowingWorld Screen Saver. Stephen Ferguson's freeware fractal programs are well known throughout the planet and he probably has written more of them then anybody else. The first one that I used was Sterlingware V1.7 . I then went to Grafzvizion Vchira Tierazon Ktaza , and finally Inkblot . If you can understand how to use Sterlingware V1.7 , you can figure out how to use his other programs a lot easier. The fractals I made with these four programs on this site may not be the greatest but they do look really interesting and I am learning how to use the programs which you can do too. If you go to the following link you can download his fractal software programs. Deep linking is prohibited on his web site so on his main page click iterations et flarium24 and on that page scroll down until you find the link that says Fractal Software Downloads Eclectasy Tim's Sterlingware Tutorial is a life saver to read through to understand how to use the fractal program Sterlingware . He did an out standing job in putting this tutorial together, and the tutorial shows you what you would be going through just like he had to if you didn't have it. Once you learn how to use

Extractions: Environmental and Information Sciences Charles Sturt University How long is the coast-line of Great Britain? At first sight this question may seem trivial. Given a map one can sit down with a ruler and soon come up with a value for the length. The problem is that repeating the operation with a larger scale map yields a greater estimate of the length (Fig. 1). If we actually went to the coast and measured them directly, then still greater estimates would result. It turns out that as the scale of measurement decreases the estimated length increases without limit. Thus, if the scale of the (hypothetical) measurements were to be infinitely small, then the estimated length would become infinitely large! Lewis Fry Richardson (quoted in Mandelbrot, 1983) noted this dependence of measured length to the measuring scale used. In discussing measurement, scale can be characterized in terms of a measuring stick of a particular length: the finer the scale, the shorter the stick. Thus at any particular scale, we can think of a curve as being represented by a sequence of sticks (Fig. 1), all of the appropriate length, joined end-to-end. Clearly, any feature shorter than the stick will vanish from a map constructed in this way. Of course, no one actually makes maps by laying sticks on the ground, but the stick analogy reflects the sorts of distortions that are inevitably produced by the limited resolution of aerial photographs, by the length of survey transects, or by the thickness of the pens used in drafting. There is an analogy here, too, with the accuracy or frequency with which any sort of biological measurements are made.

If you came to learn more about fractals, learn how to create your own fractal art, download free fractal software programs or just to view some fractal art galleries, you've come to the right place! These unique digital art images are created using a computer and fractal software generating programs. Fractals are created from mathematical formulas resulting in images of an astounding diversity of form, detail, color and light. I believe you will agree, as you view this digital art, that these images truly are AMAZING! Summer 2005 News! July, New 2005 galleries added to the galleries page! These are Xeno Dream 3D type fractal forms and I hope you enjoy these new fractals! Due to the amount of SPAM these days many e-mails I receive get eliminated before even opening. If you write please be sure to write something regarding fractals in the subject line or your e-mail may get deleted inadvertantly! Do not just put hi, N/A, hello etc. in the subject line as this is common in many SPAM e-mails and they get deleted before opening! Thanks! New galleries scheduled to be added soon!

About Fractal Tutorials If you are interested in creating your own fractal art you came to the right place! These fractal tutorials will get you off to a running start creating your own digital art. You will be able to download the software to generate these amazing images and then follow along step by step in creating your own fractals. I've tried to make these tutorials as easy to use as possible and while they are aimed at the novice just starting out, you may gain a little understanding of this program even if you've been at it a while. I have used text and screen captures of the program to illustrate and demonstrate each step of the process. This is not an esoteric, technical treatise on fractal generation but a hands on, practical demonstration of the process that will get you started creating your own art! Thank you to all who have written me about the tutorials, I appreciate each one! It brings me great pleasure knowing that these tutorials have played a small part in you enjoying this incredible art. Drop me a quick e-mail if you've enjoyed the tutorials or if you have any suggestions for adding to and/or improving them. If you are just starting out I would highly recommend the first fractal tutorial before starting the Julia tutorial. This will familiarize you with the program and it's interface and give you a good basic understanding of the process. Enjoy!
