Theiling Online: Fukhian Fukhian is a constructed, fictional language. It is an agglutinating human language which is totally regular, also featuring a unique script. The language is inspired by finnish, Turkish, Arabic and Devanagari. http://www.theiling.de/conlang/s1/
Extractions: Search this site Fukhian A Constructed Agglutinating Human Language This page uses a romanisation to show the Fukhian grammar. For showing pronunciation, CXS (=Conlang X-Sampa) is used. Please note that some examples in this file reflect the Ancient Fukhian language. Unfortunately, they are not always properly marked. This was my first constructed language. I started to work at it around 1989, maybe earlier. It has not been modified since around 1994 and although I see some deficiencies today, I do not intend to improve or extend it in a way that would be changing the original design goals. This usually means that I cannot change or even extend it at all. The Fukhian script is an alphabet that is designed to be written by hand. It has some similarities with the Arabic script, but it is a 'hanging' script like Devanagari. Writing direction is left-to-right, bottom-to-top.

Extractions: What does it mean when one culture changes or vanishes from the Earth? How does a language influence or embody a given culture? And what does it mean to a people, or to the rest of the world, when a language dies? Explorer-in-Residence Wade Davis explains: "A language isn't just a body of vocabulary or a set of grammatical rules. It is a flash of the human spirit, a vehicle though which the soul of a particular culture comes into the material world. And when we lose a language, we lose a vital element of the human dream." Despair over the loss of cultures and languages resonates throughout Tolkien's narrative in The Lord of the Rings.
Extractions: We consider it to be the major goal of our program to have you use Finnish in as large a variety of real-life situations as possible. To that end, our Finnish courses have been designed to build fluency in both the spoken and the written language. Please note that unless we have the minimum enrollment of four students at the beginning of each of our four main sessions (consisting of eight weeks), we are not able to offer a regularly scheduled group class. Students have the choice of either placing their names on a waiting list for a possible group class or making arrangements for private instruction Introductory Finnish Introduces both the spoken and the written language, with conversational proficiency as the primary goal. The course emphasizes grammar, oral expression, and listening comprehension, and is designed to give beginning students a practical command of the language. Upon completion of this course, you can expect to be able to speak in a present and a future tense, to have enough vocabulary (500 to 1,000 words) to participate in basic everyday conversation, and to be able to read and write a simple letter. Since communication in a foreign language requires an understanding of the cultural context, our aim is to teach you the living language through carefully selected textbooks, newspaper and magazine articles and other relevant materials, rather than have you repeat and memorize tourist phrases.
