Extractions: Home Programs Juris Doctor Concentrations According to the American Bar Association, state trial courts report nearly 5 million cases in the United States involving domestic relations. While this number continues to grow, the number of attorneys with specialized training in Children and Family Law lags in comparison. Students who have developed an interest in law, due to a desire to help, serve and assist families, should consider Capital's concentration in Children and Family Law. Professor Markus is a 1984 graduate of Harvard Law School and joined Capital in 1998. prior to coming to Capital, he spent five years at the U.S. Justice Department, where his duties included serving as the point person for all issues related to youth violence and juvenile justice. Professor Markus is currently writing the first-ever case book in adoption law and policy. The Children and Family Law concentration is a broad-based program and curriculum. It allows students the opportunity to gain experience in standard family law practice areas such as divorce and child custody and also more specialized areas such as juvenile justice, adoption law, school law, elder law, and sexual orientation and the law. In fact, the adoption law course at Capital is the only course in adoption law regularly taught at an American law school.

Will discuss the legal rights and obligations of all the parties involved in the family. Included in this study is the Family Law Act, and the Property (Relationships) Act 1984. Helen Walsh LLB (SCU), Solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales. Helen has been the resident tutor at Southern Cross University School of Law and Justice for the past year. In addition to the traditional topics, such as marriage, parent-child relationships, divorce, property division, maintenance, child custody and child support issues, the course covers premarital, cohabitation and postmarital contracts, paternity, adoption, assisted conception, the role of the lawyer in family law, and alternative dispute resolution. This course is a prerequisite for Advanced Family Law and Family Law Seminar. This course is offered to second-year students who have met the requirements to become staff members of the Family Law Quarterly. Students edit articles accepted for publication. She then received a prestigious E. Barrett Prettyman Fellowship from Georgetown University Law Center in 1984, where she supervised third year law students in the Juvenile Justice Clinic and represented children and adults in both the D.C. court system and the federal courts. Professor Federle began teaching in 1986 at the University of Hawaii School of Law where she held a dual appointment as a researcher at the Center for Youth Research. She subsequently joined the faculty at Tulane Law School in 1990, where she taught Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, and Juvenile Law. If you are under 16 and feel that you need a lawyer to represent you in a civil law matter you could speak to an adult involved in the case; for example, your parents or a social worker.
