Fall Craft Show At Lyndhurst -- By The Half Moon Press The Half Moon Press is a monthly newspaper covering events and life in the Historic River Towns of Westchester County, New York. http://www.hudsonriver.com/halfmoonpress/stories/0900lynd.htm
Extractions: September, 2000 issue Fall Crafts at Lyndhurst Fall Crafts at Lyndhurst has gathered 325 craft artists, representing 23 states, to display and sell jewelry, ceramics, hand-blown glass, fiber, wearable art, wood and leather at Lyndhurst, Tarrytown, on September 15, 16 and 17. The show hours are Friday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Since 1985, Crafts at Lyndhurst has been a benefit for the Lyndhurst estate, a property of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and has raised over $800,000 to help the organization. Several of the artists this fall are from the Westchester area. Beverly Robben of Rye has been designing her own fabrics and creating wool blanket coats and jackets for 15 years. Her inspiration has come from the cave paintings in the south of France. Barbara Haring of Carmel creates two-dimensional shapes from slabs and decorates the two distinct surfaces with different motifs to enhance the shapes. From Buchanan, Barbara Lent, gets into the "Zen" of weaving. She explains that her color combinations "can come from anywhere...Sometimes it's a dream. Sometimes it's an oil stain on the road. My cat's fur was an inspiration for one." The popular "On the Lam" brass band and "Buffalo Hollow" bluegrass band will play continuously Saturday and Sunday. Children's activities such as story-telling and face painting will also be ongoing on those days. Tours of the Lyndhurst mansion are available at an additional charge.
