Fabrik - A Visual Programming Environment Kit of objectoriented computational and user-interface components that can be 'wired' together to build new components and applications; diagrams use bidirectional dataflow links as shorthand for multiple paths of flow. http://users.ipa.net/~dwighth/smalltalk/Fabrik/Fabrik.html
Extractions: Fabrik is a visual programming environment - a kit of computational and user-interface components that can be "wired" together to build new components and useful applications. Fabrik diagrams utilize bidirectional dataflow connections as a shorthand for multiple paths of flow. Built on object-oriented foundations, Fabrik components can compute arbitrary objects as outputs. Music and animation can be programmed in this way and the user interface can even be extended by generating graphical structures that depend on other data. An interactive type system guards against meaningless connections. As with simple dataflow, each Fabrik component can be compiled into an object with access methods corresponding to each of the possible paths of data propagation. Kits and Concrete Manipulation A kit is a set of primitive components, together with a framework for connecting the components to do new and interesting things. If objects built with the kit can in turn be used to augment the original set of components, then the range of application becomes very large, limited only by the capability of the primitive components and the manner of their interconnection. The kit approach has been around for a long time, manifest in the subroutine libraries of the last three decades. However, the ability to browse through, and experiment with the available components was extremely primitive, owing to the textual orientation of underlying computing environments during those early years.

The Aluminium Industry's Sustainable Development Report The Shipshaw powerhouse is part of an extensive hydroelectric network operated by Alcan in Quebec, Canada. Aluminium is a sustainable material. At the current primary aluminium production level, known bauxite reserves will last for hundreds of years. More than 55 per cent of the world's aluminium production is powered by renewable hydro-electric power. Products made from aluminium can be recycled repeatedly to produce new products. The increasing use of recycled metal saves both energy and mineral resources needed for primary production.

Extractions: Main Page News Events Introduction ... Other Links Radiation in the space environment comes from the trapped particle belts, solar particle events and cosmic rays. The radiation belts consist principally of electrons of up to a few MeV energy and protons of up to several hundred MeV energy. These are trapped in the Earth's magnetic field; their motions in the field consist of a gyration about field lines, a bouncing motion between the magnetic mirrors found near the Earth's poles, and a drift motion around the Earth [ Hess ] (Fig. 1). Figure 1: The Basic Motions of Trapped Particles in the Earth's Magnetic Field. Radiation is an obvious concern for manned missions. In the near-term, manned activities are limited to low altitude, and mainly low-inclination missions. The International Space Station Space Shuttle ERS-2 EnviSat and other low altitude missions will therefore encounter the inner edge of the radiation belt. This region is dominated by the " South Atlantic Anomaly " - an area of enhanced radiation (Fig. 2) caused by the offset and tilt of the geomagnetic axis with respect to the earth's rotation axis.

First, we raise funds for effective grassroots environmental projects through CD sales, concerts, and public donations. Secondly, as we ply our musical craft, we heighten environmental awareness a vital step to help ensure the sustainable stewardship of our ecosystems We are particularly interested in efforts to protect endangered or threatened species and preserve existing wilderness habitats. Also, our emphasis is on environmental education for our young the soon-to-be stewards of our natural heritage.
