Pharmaceutical Engineering (BIOE425) BIOE425 Pharmaceutical engineering homework help session. There will be a help session at a time to be determined. http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~bioewhit/courses/bioe425/home.html
Extractions: BL 123 Instructor: Carolyn Nichol, Ph.D. Email: cnichol@rice.edu Phone: Office: Keck 234E Course description: The purpose of this course is to learn how pharmaceutically active agents behave in the body and how they are delivered to the body. Topics to be covered include the study of how drugs are absorbed and distributed in organs and tissues; what chemical alterations a drug may undergo in the body; and how drugs are stored in the body and eliminated from it. The kinetics of drug absorption and tissue distribution will be mathematically modeled to better understand how drugs are processed in vivo. How the physical and chemical properties of the active agent relate to the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination will also be probed. The time course of drug and metabolite levels in different fluids, tissues, and excreta of the body, and of the mathematical relationships required to interpret such data will be discussed. In addition, the delivery of bioactive agents from pharmaceutical dosage forms will be evaluated. Pharmaceutical formulation will be studied including the engineering aspects of liquid, solid and aerosol dosage form design with emphasis on controlled drug delivery. The course will examine the transport phenomena involved in controlled release dosage form design and along with other novel delivery systems to administer drugs. Mathematical modeling of drug diffusion and analytical testing methods will be discussed. In addition, industrial processing and regulatory issues will be covered.

Extractions: You say things aren't going quite the way you'd like this semester, especially in your ten o'clock class? The professor just covers the board with equations and doesn't explain anything? The textbook is dry as dust and doesn't have worked-out examples? The exam problems are nothing like the homework and class averages are in the 40's? First, though, let me suggest that the real problem is not that professor who's making your life miserable. It's that over the years you've bought into a message that goes like this: " My teachers have the truth, the wisdom, the tricks of the trade. Their job is to feed it all to me in lectures, and my job is to soak it up and then repeat it on homework and exams. If I can do that, I've learned what I need to know...and that's the only way I can learn it

Extractions: Welcome! This month will be devoted to everyone's favorite winter activity, Science Fair! Below you will find tips to help you complete your project, places around Jackson to find boards to display your project, and some great project ideas. What things will help me complete a better science project? Get started early! Don't try and wait until the week or night before to try and decide on a project. A good project can take several weeks, even months. Both you and your parents will be unhappy if you wait until the last minute. Choose a topic that interests you! If you try and do a project about something that you don't really like, you probably won't do your best work. If you can't think of something that you like, look at some of the ideas suggested in the sites below and go to the library and read about them. Maybe that will help! Do plenty of research and keep a good bibliography! Read all you can about your topic and your project and document everything you read as you go for your project bibliography (which you do need). Knowing lots about your topic will help you avoid problems later, and will make you very knowledgeable when it comes time for your project to be judged.
