Extractions: Skip to navigation Search URMC Home Welcome to the website of the University of Rochester Department of Emergency Medicine The Department of Emergency Medicine at Strong Memorial Hospital is the Regional Trauma Center and Pediatric receiving hospital for 1.8 million people in Western New York. We are the gateway to the 750+ bed Strong Memorial Hospital which houses dozens of Residencies, Fellowships, and sub-specialties. The model department was built in 2001 and contains over 120 beds. With over 90,000 visits per year it is one of the busiest ED's and trauma centers in the Northeast. Our EM residency is a PGY 1-3 program that is fully accredited. The program was founded in 1994 and grew to 12 residents per class in 2004. We draw residents from all over the country. We specialize in a broad exposure to all types of patients in a busy department with advanced teaching techniques and enthusiastic faculty. Four EM Fellowships are available including Peds EM, EMS, Sports Medicine, and International Emergency Medicine.
