Extractions: The Delta Science Module (DSM) series has 51 life, physical, and earth science units for grades K-8 that emphasize science concepts, science content, and process skills. The series includes 12 modules for grades 5-6 and 8 modules for grades 6-8. Each requires about 3 to 4 weeks to complete and includes a teacher's guide and materials for a class of 32 students. Teacher's Guide Electrical Connections offers 13 activities to increase students' understanding of static and current electricity, electrical circuits, and simple electrical energy converters. The activities are designed to give students concrete experiences building, operating, and analyzing electrical circuits and their applications. Electrical Connections take 30 to 60 minutes each and can be done by students working individually or in groups. In addition to directions for activities, the teacher's guide provides a module overview, a schedule of activities, objectives for each activity, background information, materials management and preparation tips, sample answers to discussion questions, teaching suggestions, and reinforcement activities. ESFI has released a spanish version of its popular "Mr. Plug Fun Book," designed to help teachers and parents explain electrical safety to children. ESFI has also joined with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), to launch Web-based electrical safety lesson plans in conjunction with NFPAs Risk Watch@ program. "As our reliance on electricity grows, the potential for misuse of home appliances, computers and entertainment equipment means the need for electrical safety awareness is far more important. Teaching children basic electrical safety principles with Risk Watch, or by using the Mr. Plug books, helps establish lifelong electrical safety habits," noted Michael G.
