Extractions: A Just world in the sense that liberation in past and current times has meant the establishment and expansion of rights to an unalienated and fulfilling life; sacred not in any specific religious sense, but referring to the fact that beyond rights there exists a connection amongst all things animate and inanimate which should not be profaned by the pursuit of individual gain; and finally, sustainable in that a just and sacred world should be made available to all across the dimensions of time and space. Our academic programs and curriculum have been developed to create the pathways for our students to walk toward this better world. We teach of the need to heal from the traumas of living in a much less than just, sacred and sustainable world; to resist the further destruction of people and the planet; to create alternatives which inspire us to live differently in the world; to change consciousness from a reductionist, objectifying paradigm to one more holistic and systemic; and finally of the need to overcome the destructive fallacy of the isolated, autonomous individual and embrace the concept of the communal and ecological self

GSF - National Research Center For Environment And Health Overall research goal is the protection of soils in terms of their function as a site for plants and as a formative element of the landscape (National Research Center for Environment and Health, Germany). http://www.gsf.de/Forschung/Institute/englisch/iboe_en.phtml
Extractions: Soils are reactors for transformations of nutrients and pollutants, act as water filters, and can be used as indicators of anthropogenic pollution. Such pollution can result from direct use (e.g. agricultural) or transfer of pollutants from other environmental compartments. Research is focused on The soil microflora and fauna are active components and potential indicators of soil quality. The research groups use modern molecular biological and serological methods and stable and radioactive isotopes as markers to analyse the transformation of nutrients, the behaviour of pollutants, and the structure and activity of soil microflora and fauna.

Extractions: The Soil Ecology Society (SES) is an international organization of researchers, students, environmental professionals and others interested in the advancement and promotion of soil biology and ecology. The SES holds a bi-annual conference which addresses contemporary issues in the field of soil ecology, and which provides a forum for ecologists, soil scientists, and members of related disciplines, to present original research results, participate in meeting symposia and workshops, and identify priorities for future research. The proceedings of these conferences are often published as books or as special journal issues. Comments on this page? Contact

Our research is aimed at understanding the theoretical basis of these odor-mediated behaviors, and includes studies of: chemistry of the odors, odor dispersal by wind, orientation maneuvers of flying insects along odor plumes, electrophysiology coupled with plume characteristics at the insect/plume interface, heritability of pheromone blend variability, and modeling odor-tracking behaviors of insects. Extractions: Home HOME Marbled Murrelets ( Brachyramphus marmoratus ) are small seabirds that live along the northern Pacific Coast of North America. They are listed as Threatened by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) and are on the provincial Red-list in British Columbia. The species is also listed as Threatened in Washington, Oregon and California. Marbled Murrelets are secretive birds with a unique life history and it is only recently that scientists have begun to learn about the details of Marbled Murrelet biology. In response to their Threatened listing, a Marbled Murrelet Recovery Team was established in 1993 to plan the long-term conservation of Marbled Murrelets. The Recovery Team includes representatives of federal and provincial government agencies, industry and non-governmental organizations. Research conducted by members of the recovery team and their colleagues has increased our knowledge of Marbled Murrelet biology. Nest sites have been located and information about Marbled Murrelet distributions and movements has been collected. This new knowledge is fundamental to revising the Recovery Plan for the Marbled Murrelet. This web site provides an introduction to Marbled Murrelet biology and management issues in B.C., and provides examples of some of the types of research and monitoring that are currently being conducted.
