Extractions: Bob Morgan Motivation For the following reasons, it is increasingly important that identifiers be made coherent and consistent throughout the enterprise. Identifiers are the foundation of the campus middleware infrastructure. If you don't know what to call an entity, you can't find it, and if you can't find it, you can't provide it with services like authentication or directories. Taking a look at the policies associated with the creation and assignment of IDs will illuminate many of the gray areas that institutions have about who can access particular IT resources. Separate systems are no longer islands; increasingly, applications and situations require the use of more than one system.

Information Technology & Services: DNS Policy DRAFT Note that ITS taking the lead in allocating DNS lookups for the School of Medicine migrate to directories under this root URL (http//med.emory.edu). http://med.emory.edu/ITS/POLICIES/dns.html
Extractions: In order to provide consistent standards for DNS address translations within the School of Medicine and among all of its departments, divisions, offices, and programs, the Office of Information Technology and Services proposes the following: med.emory.edu shall become the official subnet for all School of Medicine entities. School of Medicine entities with specific needs such as departmental email or web server lookups can be granted domain lookups, i.e. program.med.emory.edu. Email addresses for this domain would be user@program.med.emory.edu. This should be the standard, effective immediately, for all new DNS requests. Those currently in effect should gradually be migrated to this standard, though no timeframe is suggested. Note that ITS taking the lead in allocating DNS lookups for the School of Medicine does not imply support of services such as departmental email or web servers. NCD will continue to support the DNS server hardware and configuration, while departmental users will be responsible for their own servers.
