Extractions: Informal tuition on walking holidays in Wales Map-reading skills aren't essential at Hillscape, but they might help! So we offer advice and some basic instruction in navigation and map-reading to our guests. Many of our self-guided walk routes are suitable for complete beginners, and can be followed simply by using our detailed instructions; some of our guests hardly ever look at the map which is also provided. However, map reading skills are essential for some of the walks in more remote terrain, which offer the opportunity to practise your map and compass skills in open hill country. Even if that sort of walking isn't your "cup of tea", knowing that you can use a map and compass will increase your confidence whenever you are out walking. So if you haven't had much previous experience of walking by yourself, and of having to find your own way; or you are baffled by the instructions that came with your new compass, we'll be happy to get you started, and we are always here to offer advice at any level, to help you to get the most out of your holiday. There's no charge, and we usually do it round the lounge table in the evening. Anne is a geography graduate and has had experience in teaching on navigation courses run by the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and both Richard and Anne have taught map-reading and compass skills to beginners through their involvement with the local orienteering club

Extractions: Summary: Expensive but well worth it Comment: I paid quite a bit for this textbook, but in my opinion it is well worth it. The book is highly detailed with lots of nice diagrams and maps. It was pretty easy to follow/understand, but contains so much information that you can be overwhelmed easily if you do not enjoy Cultural/World Geography. Customer Rating: Summary: Good learning had a price, be it time and money!! Comment: I just finished my college course "Geography of the World" using this book. Personally I found the 10th edition book very useful and entertaining. If you want to LEARN SOMETHING, get "edumacated" has one of my friends who graduated Sumna Cum Laude from Berkeley would say, buy this book. Pony up the money, bite the bullet and enjoy the reading. This book is for knowledge and education, it is NOT for the slacker who complains because he has to read 10 pages of text every week for his GEO class. I agree that this book might be a little pricey BUT the quality is there. If you can't afford a new one, buy a used one. The book is very well structure and easy to understand, you get out of it what you put in reading it. Customer Rating:

This book would be great to use in conjunction with classroom lectures for a sixteen week or full semester course, so that you have an opportunity to absorb pertinent material. With the amount of information in this book I would not recommend its' use for a short eight week internet course. Customer Rating:
