Extractions: Because Intel NetStructure HMP is a software-only media-processing product for standard high-volume servers, costs are lower for procurement, development, deployment, and maintenance. Since Intel NetStructure HMP is standards-based and does not require specialized hardware, solutions using Intel NetStructure HMP are faster and easier to develop and deploy, easily scalable, and very flexible. Intel NetStructure HMP is also an ideal solution for developing media servers for the modular network. In an IP-only environment, Intel NetStructure HMP does not require that any physical inventory be stocked or shipped, and no onsite installation is necessary.

U.S. Supreme Court rules against the White House: war does not give the government the right to hold suspects in legal limbo. A state of war "is not a blank check for the president when it comes to the rights of the nation's citizens," wrote Justice Sandra Day O'Connor for the majority. Separately, the court said that nearly 600 men from 42 countries held at a Navy prison camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, can use American courts to contest their treatment. The Bush administration had argued that U.S. courts had no business second-guessing detentions of foreigners held on foreign soil. The Bush administration used the exact opposite of this same point when arguing that the prisoners in Guantanamo were not subject to the Geneva Conventions because they were held in a location under complete control of the U.S. government. 28-Jun-2004

Twice because that same Tower 7 devastated Verizon's West Street CO when it fell. Three times because BMCC's main campus, four blocks north of Ground Zero on Chambers Street, became an emergency center in the hours immediately following the disaster. While Verizon quickly strung 100 phone-pair cables from BMCC's voice demarc point to a truck-mounted, microwave-connected CO, all those lines were quickly commandeered by Port Authority police and emergency medical workers.

Its overall charge was to determine desired student learning outcomes and objectives for the general education curriculum; discover what measurements could be used to assess those outcomes; and develop an assessment plan for formal implementation by the college. As a prelude to serving on the committee, many of the members were sent by the college, with partial funding from CUNY, to the June 2002 AAHE Conference on Assessment in Boston. The committee began its work that fall by sharing what they learned at the conference with their colleagues. Then they examined the definition of general education under Standard 12 of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education's Characteristics of Excellence in Higher Education and visited the BMCC academic departments to seek their input regarding their views on learning outcomes and assessment measurements for general education.

Inherent or unique characteristics of different source materials necessitate different approaches to scanning and conversion requirements for digital projects should be considered on a case-by-case basis (particularly for grant projects with specific requirements). These guidelines have been developed in order to: Increase the interoperability and accessibility of digital collections across UVa through the use of accepted standards and formats Decrease the likelihood of rescanning in the future by promoting best practices for conversion of materials into digital format and the long-term preservation of these digital resources. Because technology and industry standards are constantly improving and changing, we view this as a continually evolving document.
