Although the Santa Clara, Calif.-based chipmaker garners most of its revenue and profits from such well-known processors as the Pentium 4 or the Xeon, it's unsung heroes like the US$40 915G Express chipset , released earlier this year, that have let Intel become the largest and fastest-growing graphics chip designers on the planet. The 915 family incorporates a variety of technological enhancements , including faster memory, higher-performance graphics and audio, and the option for a built-in wireless access point. The chipset family will also give the company an opportunity to erode some of TiVo's dominance in digital video recorders and to once again become a dominant force in home Wi-Fi access points. "There will definitely be a threat to Linksys and those companies if the desktop becomes an access point," said Kenn Furer, an analyst with IDC. "If anything, (Intel) becomes a threat because there's less need for the access point in addition to the desktop."

When an intense retroreflection indicates the presence of a digital camera lens, the device then fires a localized beam of light directly at that point. Thus, the picture gets washed out." Hardware Analysis - AMD Chipsets, Quirky By Nature? New AMD chipsets often seem to have to go through several driver and BIOS revisionsto get them up and running stable, whereas Intel s don t, http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/article/1786/
Extractions: By: Sander Sassen Many of you will probably frown upon the title of this editorial and wonder what Im referring to exactly, what AMD chipsets? Well, thats exactly my point, but before I get ahead of myself lets take a look at the situation with current chipsets for AMD processors and compare that to Intel. As you probably know Intel designs and manufacturers their own chipsets and only licenses a lucky few other chipset manufacturers after theyve been put through the wringer and agree to do exactly as Intel says. In the end it is a fruitless attempt by these chipset manufacturers to get in bed with Intel, and hopefully see a healthy increase in sales. No customer thats serious about their purchase would quickly move away from using anything but an Intel chipset with an Intel processor, just so save some money, most would even pay extra. And no, Im not referring to the category of users that see the PC as just another household appliance; those are beyond help anyway, they often dont even know what a processor is, let alone a chipset.

The firm did not reveal any further details on the matter and did not explain the reason behind incompatibility, but indicated intention to launch a chipset that supports AMDs latest chips shortly. We are aware of incompatibility of the K8T890 chipset with dual-core AMD processors. We have fixed this with the latest chipset silicon which is going to be available and shipping to the mainboard vendors very shortly, VIAs spokesman Michal Lisiecki told X-bit labs. Earlier on Thursday German web-site ComputerBase reported a claim made by ASUSTeK about incompatibility between VIA K8T890 [and the companys A8V-E-series mainboards] and AMD Athlon 64 X2 processors caused by chipset limitation. Currently ASUS supplies a family of mainboards that can work with AMD Athlon 64 X2 processors marked with a special sticker.

Extractions: document.write(''); Pls Install Macromedia Flash To View Intel Pentium 4 DDR Chipsets Roundup Date : January 15, 2002 Author : Visionary Website : VR-Zone document.write(''); Introduction Earlier this month on January 7th, Intel has unleashed their new Pentium 4 processors based on the 0.13 micron "Northwood" cores and has caused quite a stir with its overclockability . Towards end of this month, Intel is going to cut the prices of the Pentium 4 processors "Willamette" cores by ~US$30 for each speed grade. Intel is also expected to resolve the current shortage of P4 processors with increasing production capacity and currently, five of Intels fabs have entered 0.13-micron process production of the P4 "Northwood". Therefore, what we can expect in this quarter is the increasing demand for Pentium 4 processors for either the P4 "Northwood" or the cheaper 0.18 micron P4 "Willamette" and the wide availability of motherboards for the Pentium 4 processors. Apart from the Intel 845A3 SDRAM and 850 RDRAM based chipsets boards, there are newer and more interesting chipsets from VIA, SiS, ALi and Intel. We are going to take a close look at all the DDR chipsets offering from ALi, Intel, SiS and VIA apart from the current SDRAM and RDRAM based chipsets, i845A3 and i850.
