The move, expected to take place by the end of August, could delay shipments of low-end PCs from various manufacturers for a couple of months. Sources close to the chipmaking giant's dealings confirmed reports that Intel would shutter production of its 910GL, 915GL and 915PL chipsets. The three microcontrollers that help feed the main brain of Pentium 4 and Celeron D chips were expected to make up about 20 percent of Intel's desktop chipset supply in the second half of this year. An Intel representative dismissed reports suggesting the company was exiting the low-end chipset business altogether but said the company was in the middle of making changes to its manufacturing plants to make way for more mobile-focused and high-performance products. Despite reports of which products would be phased out, Intel declined to officially state which chipsets would be put on the back burner.

Extractions: Information about the flat panel (timing, resolution, etc) is contained within an EDID ROM chip and can be queried by the Video BIOS or the O/S. This information is used to setup the 810 video registers properly. The EDID specification (810 supports EDID 1.x) is a VESA standard and is available from VESA . Some flat panels have this EDID ROM chip built in. If not, you will have to provide this ROM on your system board, and program it with the appropriate EDID information for the flat panel you intend to use. The EDID ROM will connect to the I2C* bus provided by the 810 (DDCSCL and DDCSDA).

Rebuild your installer using kernel 2.4.27 or later, which includes libata, desirable since it adds many new chipsets and gives a (potential, subject to physical read limits, etc.) ~10M/s speed boost to some others compared to the quite slow 2.4.x drivers/ide set.
