Extractions: Welcome to the homepage of the Institute of Chinese Culture (ICC). The ICC, founded in Houston in 1970, became the first non-profit, formally chartered Chinese language school and cultural organization in Texas. It was established to promote and preserve the Chinese culture and heritage within a multicultural community. The ICC had its beginnings at the campus of Rice University and then relocated to the Clarewood location in 1988. A fire in 1995 destroyed the building which housed the ICC. The education operations continued from facilities generously provided by Southwest College of the Houston Community College System. The ICC recently purchased a building at 10550 Westoffice Drive as a permanent location for the school. The new building is the culmination of the effort and contribution, a shining moment in the history of the ICC and a reflection of generous community spirit. A Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for the new building was held on Saturday, August 16, 1997. The Board of Directors as well as all the parents and students of the ICC cordially give sincere thanks to the entire Houston community to participate in this joyous occasion. The ICC also extends many thanks to Rice University and the Houston Community College System for their enormous support in the past, and to all the friends of the ICC near and far who made this dream become a reality.
