Comprising much of central and eastern Europe, it was a multi-lingual, multi-cultural agglomeration of territories and peoples so diffuse and various that by the end of the twentieth century it had been divided between a dozen other countries and successor states. Heterogeneous yet strangely homogenous: despite difference, and the almost arbitrary process by which the constituent parts gradually succumbed to Habsburg rule over a period of 645 years, the common features are striking. The incessant interplay between variety and unity constitutes an underlying theme of the tour. The tour presents the architectural and artistic treasures of the region in the context of its history, highlighting key episodes and themes. The Habsburg rulers themselves will of course come in for scrutiny, as will their principal supports, the aristocracy, the army and the Catholic Church. But probing beyond traditional political and dynastic history, pictures emerge of life in the great country houses above and below stairs, of the lives of artists and musicians, of the Jewish communities, of the competing nationalities. While the tour is based in five cities, four of which are modern-day capitals, equal attention is given to the provinces and countryside. The area abounds with picturesque small towns, magnificent country houses, charming villages, once-powerful abbeys and bountiful scenery.

The S80 also includes a greatly enhanced set of central electronic complex (CEC) support logic. More specifically, the memory controller complex was dramatically updated. The S family was the first RS/6000 system to exploit the true 64-bit large memory addressing capabilities of AIX 4.3. The S family also has a rich set of reliability features. Rack Packaging The S family models consist of two physical enclosures.
