Archeologists discovered the remains of three settlements which belong to the era of late paleolith. Ancient people settled not far from the banks of Zolota Lypa (Golden Lime Tree) river, at its high, forested and dry banks. At the place of one of this settlements, on the hills of mountain Zvirynets' (Polish name: Zwierzyniec), remains of flint master-shop of ancient times were discovered. Here primary work tool were found (flint knife-like plates, cutter, scratchers etc.) and a great number of remains of flint productivity - nucleuses, balls, plates. Certain flint products were found also at the place of of settlements at the upper flow of Zolota Lypa, at the present territory of Berezhany Brickworks Plant. Over three weeks of study and travel in the heart of Europe, students will have the opportunity to uncover the past themselves, and to learn about how present day research, interpretation, and tourism development affect the ways the past is preserved and presented to the public. ENAME Ename is a medieval archaeological site. In the past twenty years, Ename has gained public attention both for its excavations and for its public presentation program. Enames past is presented to the public through an archaeological park, a unique architectural monument, and a state-of-the-art community museum. Students will excavate in the area. FLANDERS FIELD AND WORLD WAR I The Great War was fought to a standstill in Flanders. Its memorials are tourist attractions and sites of deepest significance for residents and families whose relatives died during the War. We will visit Ypres, the great cemeteries holding hundreds of thousands of soldiers, and any archaeological excavations available in the area.

Extractions: in United Kingdom There are many chateaux in Belgium which are worth seeing and in this tour of some of them we will give a few notes about a number. The most prestigious and outstanding are given pages to themselves which can be accessed by clicking on the highlighted name or, in some cases, the picture displayed. The chateaux on display vary from huge castles, many started before the 11th century, and still looking massive and forbidding, to elegant French style chateaux with delicate lines and superb interior design. For people who have been to the United Kingdom and seen castles there with their solid high square 'keep' and surrounding 'curtain walls' for example castles such as the Tower of London, Edinburgh Castle or Caernarvon Castle the early castles of Belgium will seem unusual. The same variations occur in France with the castles of Normandy being built in the same style as England (because of the conquest of England) while castles in the rest of France developed similar styles to the Low Countries. It is only in the seventeenth century when the French influence was prominent throughout European architecture that we get the similar styles of palace/mansion/country house style which became common to much of Europe as travel became more international. While the gentlemen spend their time here the ladies will have a chance to view the abbey ruins and the gardens. dinner will be at the Potters Heron, an attractive hotel/restaurant in the New Forest. Extractions: CHATEAU: the word itself conveys a certain amount of mystery. The English word castle, as we shall see, reinforces the romantic part of the message. For if the word "palace" tends to call to mind an image of power and overabundant wealth, of the sort we might associate with Roman emperors and Indian maharajahs, the word castle is more subtle and more severe. The palace is the home of luxury and splendor. The castle stands surrounded in mist, guarding its sleeping princess. And while all epochs and all civilizations have given palaces to the world, castles are almost exclusively the products of Western Europe in the Middle Ages. Certainly one can find castles in northern India or Japan but they do not have much physical resemblance to those of Europe nor do they emerge from a political or social system similar enough to signify the same thing. Himeji Castle Area Around Himeji City Himeji Castle Area [Himeji Castle] Himeji Castle, built in the early 17th century, represents the highest achievement in Japanese castle architecture. Designated as a national treasure in 1931, the castle was registered on the World Heritage list in 1993 as the first cultural site in Japan. The registration occurred because the castle has kept its original design at the time of construction, such as turrets, stone walls, gates, and moats, which still survive today. The main castle keep (Dai-tenshu) connected with three small keeps (Ko-tenshu) linked by passage turrets (Watari yagura) remains perfectly in their original forms. Because of its elegant appearance totally covered with white plaster includes castle keeps and turrets, the castle has been compared to a white bird flying off to the sky.
