To get it right, Marimow and fellow Inquirer Skillful probing, thoroughness, and accuracy have been the hallmarks of Marimows 29-year career in journalism. He readily acknowledges that a career in journalism can "really make a difference in peoples lives." Marimows own ability to make such a difference was recognized again in 1985, when his reporting for an exposé that revealed Philadelphia police dogs had attacked more than 350 people earned him a second Pulitzer Prize. Marimow spent 21 years at The Philadelphia Inquirer, working as a reporter covering labor, city government, the courts, and economics, before becoming an editor, city editor, and then assistant to the publisher. He left Philadelphia in 1993 to become metro editor at The Baltimore Sun , a Times-Mirror newspaper he described as a "sleeping giant of a newspaper that needed to be woken up." He served as associate managing editor of the newspaper from the fall of 1993 to 1995, when he was named the managing editor responsible for overseeing the work of 400 employees.

Balancing the life of a national magazine editor and impassioned parent I f yo u were a human resources professional at a major magazine in New York City in the early to mid 80s, you probably knew of Kate Meyers 82. I made everyone crazy until they offered me a job, Meyers jokes. My biggest asset was that I never took no for an answer. Every place I applied to, I got to know the people at human resources offices because I went back so often. Ten years and countless bylines later, Meyers persistence and confidence have allowed her to balance the life of an in-demand national magazine writer and editor, and impassioned mother of two children. Meyers writing career began at Trinity when she landed what she refers to as the best job Ive ever had in journalism, bar none. During her junior year, Meyers approached then-editor of the Trinity Tripod, Steve Elmendorf 82, with the idea of writing a weekly column. Elmendorf agreed to the idea and Meyers began writing on a variety of topics related to the college experience and mutual life events that happen when youre 19 or 20. Meyers, who came to Trinity from a large high school in Pittsburgh, PA, attributes Trinitys size as a key factor that facilitated her introduction to the field of journalism.

Careers In Marine Science Education, environmental law, interpretation, art, journalism and many other A career in marine science may be different from what most people expect. http://www.dnr.state.sc.us/marine/pub/seascience/mscaree.html
Extractions: So you want to be a Marine Scientist? You like to be outside, heard the oceans would feed the world, want to learn to SCUBA dive or communicate with dolphins. GREAT! You know what you like and have a direction in mind. But is Marine Science for you? What exactly does a marine scientist do and how do you enter the field. Many people are asking these same questions. Interest in the ocean and the environment has sparked an increase in questions from students about careers in marine science. This publication will attempt to answer some of the commonly asked questions and help you learn more about this challenging field. More often, the question "Will I get to work with dolphins or whales?" is asked. The answer is probably not! Most people come into contact with marine animals at aquaria and theme parks, where they see some of the large, more glamorous animals that the seas have to offer. Television portrays marine biologists as divers searching for the mysteries of the deep or in a cage surrounded by sharks. The truth is that these are images of a small percentage of marine scientists. South Carolina has many more people studying shrimp than dolphins or sharks. Some scientists venture out on large research vessels, sometimes for extended periods of time, while others study water samples in a laboratory. Many spend their day hip deep in marsh mud while still more perform research to help determine the laws and regulations necessary to protect the ocean's limited resources.
