Extractions: On February 23, 2003, law enforcement and fire department units were dispatched to a motor vehicle incident (MVI) at a State Highway/Township road intersection. Emergency personnel (fire fighters and fire police) were on the scene for approximately 30 minutes when a vehicle struck the victim while he was directing traffic in a heavy fog. On-scene personnel, trained as emergency medical technicians, came to the aid of the victim. He was then transported to the trauma center of a local hospital for further treatment. The victim was scheduled to be released from the hospital on March 01, 2003, but was not due to complications. The victim remained in the hospital until April 19, 2003, when he died as a result of complications from his injuries. NIOSH investigators concluded that, to minimize the risk of similar occurrences, fire departments should ensure that the placement of various types of warning devices (portable signs, orange traffic cones, flares and/or portable changeable message signs) informs drivers of what to expect when approaching an incident scene

Extractions: Email This Story Print This Story POSTED: 5:51 pm PDT August 1, 2005 UPDATED: 6:06 pm PDT August 1, 2005 SAN DIEGO It's a tight job market in San Diego, and often job hunters turn to the classifieds for opportunities. But the classified ads don't always tell the whole story, 10News reported. 10News opened the classifieds recently to find an ad for firefighters. It looked like a great opportunity for men and women who want to protect and serve, but when you call the number listed, it doesn't ring at the fire station. 10News called the ad found in the Union-Tribune classifieds. The ad was for firefighters and stated no experience was necessary. It also said there was paid training, relocation and benefits. It said ages 17 to 34 could apply by calling a toll free 800 number. But if you call, you end up on a phone list, and eventually called back by a telephone room salesperson. 10News found out it was a U.S. Navy ad, but no where in the ad does it say it's a U.S.Navy recruiting effort.
