Extractions: Stats Canada Geography: Canada is the second largest country in the world, with an area of almost 10 million square kilometres, occupying 7% of the world's land area. Canada is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the east, the Pacific Ocean to the west, the Arctic Ocean to the north, and the United States to the south. From the east to west coast, Canada spans over 5,000 kilometres and six time zones. It takes about seven hours to cross Canada by airplane. Canada has many geographical features, from plains to mountains, fertile lowlands to rolling hills, lakes and forests to treeless tundra. Due to the countrys vast size and variety of geographic features, climate varies from temperate in the south to arctic in the north. Most parts of the country have four seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. The country is rich in natural resources, including iron ore, nickel, zinc, copper, gold, lead, molybdenum, potash, silver, fish, timber, wildlife, coal, petroleum, natural gas, and hydro-electric power.

Extractions: SFU Library Home Research Help Subject Guides Economics > Economic Indicators Hundreds of statistics about the economy are generated every month. Each gives some information about the condition of the economy. None of these statistics alone is a reliable indicator of overall economic health. Many economic statistics, though certainly not all, can be assigned to one or another of three distinct groups depending on the timing of their movements relative to changes in the national economy. Some tend to turn upward on a fairly regular basis in advance of the national economy and typically turn downward before the national economy begins to weaken. These are known as leading indicators, and they signal the advent of recessions and recoveries several months in advance. Others perform much in step with the economy as a whole and so are known as coincident indicators. Finally, those whose turning points trail behind the national business cycle are known as lagging indicators.
