Her immediate family is from out of the country and is not equipped to deal with her current problems, which range from drug use and stealing to dangerous boyfriends and cutting herself, and regularly dissappearing. We have already called the police and Child Protective Services, there is not much they say they can do at this point and we want to see if we can find a safe place for her to be contained, such as a boarding school that would be affordable and effective for us. Please let us know if you know of any schools, camps, programs, or even group homes that would be a good option for us (she has MediCal, and her mother is on Disability). Many thanks for your help. my advice the the family with the ''out of control teen'' is to look on line for therapeutic boarding schools. ''The ASpen group'' is a great network of schools for troubled kids. My son went to Stone Mountain school for boys. It helped him a lot. They have a school for girls in Arizona i think. Last Friday Brown Schools Inc., the closely held owner of one of the nation's best-known therapeutic boarding chains, closed with no notice to families, sending 300 students home before the end of the school year. Brown which operated five boarding schools in Idaho, California and Vermont, plus other youth programs in Idaho, Texas and Florida filed for bankruptcy under Chapter 7, meaning its operations will be liquidated.

Instead of directly killing California indigenous people, reservations were created and indigenous people were re-located to them. The children were taken, often by force, away from their parents and to far-away re-education centers. Children as young as four attended these re-education centers. They were forced to cut their hair and give up their clothing upon arrival. The purpose for these re-education centers was to destroy Indian children and Indian cultures and create American children. By 1890, it was becoming too expensive for the United States Army to hunt down and kill indigenous people-it was easier and less costly to lie to Native people to get them to stop fighting for survival, then steal their children and take them thousands of miles away to re-educate them by force. This alternative to physical termination of a people has been copied by many regimes throughout history, among them Nazi Germany. In northern California, children were often taken to boarding schools located in Riverside, Ca., and to various places in Oregon. A re-education center in Hoopa Valley near Fort Gaston also housed many local indigenous children as recently as 1932.
