Granted, ethics are not directly a biological issue, but a growing number of ethical topics are influencing the non-hunting public's opinion of hunters. In the Magnolia State, hunters must remember one fact: Most Mississippians don't hunt. Less than 15 percent of Mississippians participate in hunting. This is one reason that negative non-hunter opinion can lead to legislation which could curtail our privileges as hunters. There is a difference between poor hunter ethics and what is illegal. Ethics are your personal code of what is right and wrong. Your code may not match your neighbor's. Moses did not come down from Mount Sinai with the 10 commandments of ethical hunting. What you do legally in private is, for the most part, your business and not the state's concern. Consequently, "your hunt is your hunt". One hunter may consider it unethical to use a compound bow, while another hunter may have given the issue considerable thought and determined that a compound bow is certainly an ethical weapon for him. Hunting practices that violate the law are unethical. Hunters who violate existing laws are in the minority in our state. However, this small percentage gives all hunters a bad reputation in the opinion of the non-hunting public. Trespassing and general disregard for the rights of landowners lead the list of illegal practices.

Extractions: by Steven Mizrach The goal of this text analysis project was to take the texts of the computer underground and to analyze them for the presence of a) knowledge about the Hacker Ethic and b) evolution of that Ethic. Many writers, such as Steven Levy, bemoan the fact that modern-day hackers (the computer underground) are not worthy of the name because they do not live up to the principles of the original Hacker Ethic, and as unethical individuals, should simply be called "computer terrorists" or "juvenile delinquents." I sought to examine whether 90s new hackers knew of the old Hacker Ethic, if they had added anything to it, and the reasons why they felt they acted differently from their predecessors. I broadened my text analysis to look at what they saw as ethical violations, and reasons why some might repudiate the Hacker Ethic or the idea of having an ethic. As my text project evolved, I found that after discovering the existence of a new hacker ethic for new hackers, I was wondering if people expressing the principles of the new ethic also expressed the old. I expected that the adoption of a new set of ethics would not necessarily mean the complete abandonment of the old. This would establish some continuity between both groups of hackers, and some familiarity by new hackers with the old ideals. If the hypothesis of continuity turns out to be true, then new hackers are not as different from old hackers as authors like Levy (or certain computer security professionals) might claim. They would then not only have their own ethics, but also utilize some ethical principles of their predecessors.

This case, and many others, is compelling because of the critical shortage of available organs relative to the number of patients who need them. Shortages, fair allocation and expanding the pool of eligible donors How far should we go in creating new avenues for organ procurement? Federal law prohibits the buying and selling of human organs, and for good reason. Instead we allocate organs based on waiting time and severity of illness, and are trying to address geographical disparities by creating a single national allocation system.

Extractions: Goldsmiths, University of London Published in the Journal of Buddhist Ethics , Volume Two, 1995 ISSN 1076-9005 It has not gone unnoticed that the Buddhist aim of eliminating suffering coincides with the objectives of medicine (Duncan et al, 1981; Soni, 1976). The Buddhist emphasis on compassion finds natural expression in the care of the sick, and according to the Vinaya the Buddha himself stated "Whoever, O monks, would nurse me, he should nurse the sick" (Zysk, 1991:41). Buddhist clergy and laity have been involved with the care of the sick for over two thousand years. The Indian Buddhist emperor Asoka states in his second Rock Edict that provision has been made everywhere in his kingdom for medical treatment for both men and animals, and that medicinal herbs suitable for both have been imported and planted. Birnbaum (1979) and Demieville (1985) provide good general introductions to Buddhism and medicine. Buddhism appears to have played an important role in the evolution of traditional Indian medicine (Zysk, 1991), and there are many parallels between Buddhist medicine, as recorded in the Pali canon, and Aayurveda (Mitra, 1985). There are short monographs by Haldar on the scientific (1977) and public heath aspects (1992) of medicine in the Pali sources. It is likely that as Buddhism spread through Asia it would have interacted with indigenous medical traditions promoting the cross-fertilization of ideas. Redmond (1992) discusses the relationship of Buddhism to medicine from Theravaada and Mahaayaana perspectives and compares Buddhist and Daoist concepts of disease. Discussions of Tibetan medicine may be found in Clifford (1984), Dhonden (1986), and Rechung (1976), while Ohnuki-Tierney (1984) discusses illness and culture in contemporary Japan.
