BUSH: Mr. Speaker, Mr. President Pro Tempore, members of Congress, and fellow Americans, in the normal course of events, presidents come to this chamber to report on the state of the union. Tonight, no such report is needed; it has already been delivered by the American people. We have seen it in the courage of passengers who rushed terrorists to save others on the ground. Passengers like an exceptional man named Todd Beamer. And would you please help me welcome his wife Lisa Beamer here tonight? (APPLAUSE) We have seen the state of our union in the endurance of rescuers working past exhaustion. We've seen the unfurling of flags, the lighting of candles, the giving of blood, the saying of prayers in English, Hebrew and Arabic. We have seen the decency of a loving and giving people who have made the grief of strangers their own.

And then came the most recent surge of violence in Iraq. Consider this: it's been two-and-a-half years since the invasion, and the United States has yet to secure the capital city. The goddamn road to the Baghdad airporton which my friend Marla Ruzicka died in Aprilremains one of the most dangerous six-mile stretches in Iraq. Still, Bush was citing progress and pitching the same-old same-old. But do you notice that he's often light on facts? He asserts reality his reality (as halfcocked it may be)rather than provides compelling evidence. So again and again he maintains that we are fighting

President Bush Supports Continued Ban On Internet Taxation george bush promises to hold back on the implementation of Internet Taxation in the face of a projected of $5 trillion dollar budget surplus. http://www.infinisource.com/features/internet-tax.html
Extractions: Sandra Underhill It's a breath of fresh air when elected officials honor their campaign platform promises. President George Bush promised to hold back on the implementation of taxation of the Internet and he's actually endeavoring to follow through with those commitments. The three-year ban on Internet Taxation, enactedby congress in 1998, was set to expire this October 21, 2001. But let's hope that President Bush's pledge of a permanent ban on Internet taxation becomes a reality. For now, Senate Commerce Committee members are working on an immediate five-year extension of the federal prohibition of Internet taxes. Proponents of Internet taxation believe that the government shouldn't intervene in this matter at all.

Extractions: Unfortunately, there is evidence that individuals who have had hyperthyroidism in the past and have been cured and now have normal thyroid function may still have an increased risk for atrial fibrillation relative to the rest of the population. Thus, by age 70, 10% of individuals with a history of hyperthyroidism have atrial fibrillation while only 5% of those who lack a history of a thyroid problem have the condition. A combination of factors may explain these observations. Excess thyroid hormone stimulates the heart to go faster and may precipitate irregular heart rhythm disturbances, particularly in patients who are predisposed to this occurring.
