This is Burkina's main game park with elephants, monkeys, lions, hippos, leopards, antelopes and birds. The park is open between December 15 and May 15, with hunting of certain big game until March 15. Hunting of some smaller animals is permitted during the entire period. Permits are required and may be obtained from the Forest and Wildlife Service. Located 65 miles South of Ouaga; in this 150,000-hectare park visitors may see monkeys, wart hogs, antelopes. Burkina Faso burkino faso. International Religious Freedom Report 2004 Released by the Bureauof Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor http://www.state.gov/g/drl/rls/irf/2004/35341.htm
Extractions: The Constitution provides for freedom of religion, and the Government generally respects this right in practice. There was no change in the status of respect for religious freedom during the period covered by this report, and government policy continued to contribute to the generally free practice of religion. Muslims are concentrated largely around the northern, eastern, and western borders, while Christians are concentrated in the center of the country. Traditional indigenous religions are practiced widely throughout the country, especially in rural communities. Ouagadougou, the capital, has a mixed Muslim and Christian population. Bobo-Dioulasso, the country's second largest city, is mostly Muslim. The country has a small Syrian and Lebanese immigrant community, whose members are overwhelmingly (more than 90 percent) Christian. Members of the dominant ethnic group, the Mossi, belong to all three major religions. Fulani and Dioula groups overwhelmingly are Muslim. There is little correlation between religion and political affiliation or economic status. Religious affiliation appears unrelated to membership in the ruling party, the Congress for Democracy and Progress, or any other political party. Government officials belong to all of the major religions.

Kini And Adams To make this film, Ouedraogo went outside his native burkino faso to find apanAfrican The film was co-produced by entities in Burkina faso, Zimbabwe, http://spot.pcc.edu/~mdembrow/kini_and_adams.htm
Extractions: KINI AND ADAMS (1997, Zimbabwe/Burkina Faso, 93 min.), directed by Idrissa Ouedraogo; screenplay by Ouedraogo, Santiago Amigorena, and Olivier Lorelle; cinematography by Jean-Paul Meurisse; music by Wally Badarou; with Vusi Kunene (Kini), David Mohloki (Adams), Nthati Moshesh (Aida), John Kani (Ben), Netsayi Chigwendere (Binja), Fidelis Cheza (Tapera), In English with French subtitles. The Festival committee is proud to open this year's series with our fourth film by Burkinabe director Idrissa Ouedraogo. The film is set in a remote, impoverished area in Zimbabwe (the film was actually shot just a few miles from the capital city of Harare), a region of dry fields and huge granite rocks, where people try to scrape a living out of the thin soil. Yet the land has its own stunning beauty (beautifully photographed by Jean-Paul Meurisse under Ouedraogo's direction), just as the inhabitants have dreams that supersede their poverty, and they have vital, volatile human relationships. Kini has a loving family life with his wife Aida and daughter Bongi, but equally important to him is his friendship with Adams, a confirmed bachelor and dreamer. They have somehow acquired the carcass of an automobile, and the two men spend their days and nights tinkering with it. They have plenty of skill and ingenuity, but little in the way of resources to use to purchase the parts that would actually make the thing run. This does not stop them from spending long hours together, telling each other stories and dirty jokes, weaving their plans of moving to the city, becoming taxi drivers, and living a life of comfort and sophistication. Aida becomes increasingly unhappy with her husband's crazy scheme, which keeps him away from home so much.

Extractions: Community Radio: a "most appealing tool for the common man" For over five decades, radio has been the "most appealing tool" for participatory communication and development. It "has always been the ideal medium for change", says a new book on how radio, the Internet and other technologies are helping the poor get a better grip over their lives. Titled 'Making Waves' this 352-page report focuses on how radio stations across the globe are making a difference, often to those who lack other means of communication. It also looks at how other tools are being used for this purpose including computers, the Internet, multimedia, threatre and video. But the largest number of case-studies deal with radio. Twenty experiences of unusual radio stations from across the globe are studied, while in two cases radio has been linked with the Internet, to widen its reach. "Today, any small country in Latin America can count by hundreds the stations, most of them FM, that serve rural or urban communities with content that is appropriate to the local language, culture and needs," comments the report by Alfonso Gumucio Dagron, who spent nearly a year researching and interviewing. This report was put together for the US-based Rockefeller Foundation. It suggests that Asia and Africa "are certainly undergoing the same process that Latin America lived through decades ago". Asia provides important examples in the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Nepal, says the study.

During one hectic week it showed some 480 films from 50 countries in 10 theatres. The programmes, lasting about 95 minutes, were grouped in categories such as `A glance at South Korea', `Films from Spain', `Sado-Masochism and Fetishism', `Documentaries', and `Specially for Children'. There were two programmes devoted exclusively to Africa, consisting of 13 films, from countries as far apart as Burkino Faso, the Congo and Mauritius. Two African films were particularly interesting for their cross cultural references. Balafola by Mohamed Camara, concerns a young African musician living in France. By chance he discovers his father's will, made years before in Africa, and deliberately concealed, so that the boy would only find it if he fulfilled the old man's wishes by becoming a musician. The will's discovery, and the dramatic effect it has on the young mans life, clearly carry magical undertones. Cultural differences of a very different sort appear in

The following is a list of some of the ways in which the day was marked, compiled from reports from each of the participating Canadian missions. It includes a wide variety of activities and events (Canadian film screenings, plays, concerts, art and photography exhibits, roundtables, etc.), the scale of which depended on the individual missions' human and financial resources. The number of participating missions is constantly on the rise. We are pleased to underscore the involvement of a number of these missions in countries that are not members of La Francophonie. Canada's Minister responsible for La Francophonie, Mr. Jacques Saada, travelled to Haiti, host country for the official celebrations of the 2005 International Day of La Francophonie, in order to take part in a variety of activities. The Secretary-General of the International Organization of La Francophonie, His Excellency Abdou Diouf, presided over these events. Established in Niamey, Niger, in March 2005, La Francophonie celebrated its 35th anniversary this year. Canada is a founding member of this international organization, which today boasts 53 member countries and participating governments, and 10 observer countries.
